Brewer Casey Motes’ Description: The goal of this beer was to make a Belgian/American hybrid using west coast American hops and rye to emulate the fruit and spices often found in Belgian beers. The beer pours a bright golden color. The nose is a mixture of phenolics from the Belgian wit yeast and light citrus from the American hops with a touch of graininess. Rye adds sweetness and complexity to the pilsner and aromatic malts. The spice of the rye is somewhat subdued at lower temperatures but becomes more apparent as the beer warms. Cascade and centennial hops were used for both flavor and aroma, adding floral and citrus notes to play off the strengths of the yeast. Belgian candi sugar was added during fermentation to bump up the alcohol while allowing the beer to avoid finishing too sweet. The dry finish hides the 10% alcohol nicely and makes you want to take another sip. This beer is best enjoyed at 50°F to 55°F. Pours a bright golden amber color. There’s a small head that dissipates rather quickly, then leaves a circle of white tiny foam around the rim of the glass. The aroma is lemon zest, a grassy note, some light grains, and a slight dirt aroma. The flavor is yeasty and spicy. The rye really pushes to the front. I poured it somewhat warm, and as it warmed even more the spiciness was prominent. Not really a fan.

Bottle:   Very bready and yeasty example, a bit musty but not in the traditional Belgian sense.   Its thick, almost cloying, but stops just short of it.   Very sweet and sticky, and very American like.   Does have some very mild dark pitted fruit notes, or maybe I should say golden raisin?   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Finishes very much American, thick and bready, sweet, sticky, but thankfully not cloying.

Gold with a white head. Heavy sugar, floras, yeast and alcohol on tree. Chewy palate, bug alcohol up front, floras, sweet, burn in the finish.

Golden, hazy, with thin white head. Butterscotch, maple syrup, and vanilla aromas. Sweet flavors throughout with slight sourness. Wood, alcohol, honey, and slight fruit flavors. Easy drinking for a high alcohol beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a golden hazy with a chalk white head the keeps lacings around the glass to the finish. The nose has yeast esters that are present in the flavor. A flavorful malt that finishes with the dryness of the rye and subtle hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bomber. Poured a heavily unfiltered golden color with a white top that lasted throughout. Sweet taste of Belgian yeast, citrus, fruity, rye, and biscuit malt. Lively carbonation, medium body. Overall, yet another fantastic brew in the divine reserve series!

18 month old bottle. Smells of candy sweetness and citrus at the same time, with a hint of rye and hops in the background. very pretty and light amber color, bright with only a dollop of off white foam. Taste is very sweet with a dash of rye to balance things out. Only a faint trace of hops detected in the taste. Sweet aftertaste which brings out some of the citrus from the aroma. Great palate, slick and not watery at all. I am not at all a fan of this style and this beer still impressed me. Great and unique offering from Saint Arnold.

Originally rated on 8/27/14. Aromas of candi sugar mostly, next comes booze with hints of wheat, fruity yeasts, and faint citrus. Body is golden With plenty of yeast floaters, the head is a thin ring that leaves spotty lace.Flavor is much the same as the aroma, the yeasts and rye spiciness comes out a bit more, and the sweetness goes down a bit. The alcohol is still a bit hot on the backside.Overall its a pretty decent representation of the style, you gotta let it warm up a bit but not bad. I have one left, think i’ll save it till winter and see if the booze backs down a touch.

12 oz bottle from a trade about a year ago. Color is a hazy blonde color with very thin head. Aroma shows pale grain, honey and hints of spice.

The flavor shows the grain base with yeast and a big amount of sweetness. Not really sure what the goal of this beer is? Yeast and a lot of sweetness is all I’m getting here. Really just kind of flat in the flavor department. Reminds me of a really high ABV Belgian single.

(12oz bottle, courtesy of Mora2000) Pours a clear golden body with a spare white head. Aroma of apricot, florals, peach, citrus, and minerals. Flavor of dried apricots, tangerine, minerals, dough, caramel, toffee, and citrus with a dry, vitamin finish.
