This will be our final release in the Divine Reserve series for this year. No. 3 is an imperial or double IPA meaning that it is higher in alcohol and hoppier than a regular IPA. The taste of this beer is initially malt with honey notes (from honey, no less) versus spicy hop bitterness with the hops eventually winning. In fact, you will notice that the bitter will remain with you well after each sip. This is a beer that should mellow with age. While this beer is recommended primarily for the hopheads of the world, the bitter of this beer is surprisingly pleasant for being so, well, huge. That may be attributed in a large part to our water quality. Ah, the things reverse osmosis lets you do. Here is some info on the beer: Cases Made: 542 Date Brewed: July 17, 2006 Date Bottled: September 21, 2006 Original Gravity: 1.082 Final Gravity: 1.010 Alcohol: 9.5% ABV Malts: Maris Otter, Wheat, Caravienne, Carapils and Dark Crystal Other Sugars: Honey, Molasses Hops: Chinook, Centennial, Ahtenum, Cascades For those of you that don't remember, this recipe was inspired by David Majoras' winning entry in the 2006 Big Batch Brew Bash competition. We use the term "inspired by" because when scaling up a recipe, many changes, some drastic, are always made. We hope you enjoy this beer! Clear copper. Creamy off-white small head. Old, aged hops tells me it was pretty hoppy when it was fresh. They sit on a moderately sweet caramel body with some fruit thrown in... with the sweetness probably coming through by the hops fading. Flavor has the same qualities as the aroma, with the hops being spicer and some alcohol showing up. Pretty good overall. I dig the mellowed hops.

12oz bottle 1/13/10 (RSRIZZOs Winter Gathering courtesy of BeerandBlues2)-Pours a hazy orangish amber with no head. Aroma of sweetness, hops, and grapefruit. Taste of the same with alcohol. This light to medium bodied brew is past its prime.

Thanks to a friend for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a hazy brown color with no real head. The aroma is very sweet, with some pine and orange notes coming through from the hops. There is also a strong molasses character in the aroma, which I cant really explain. The flavor is also interesting. There is a lot of alcohol and sweetness, similar to an aged barleywine. I also get some molasses, leather and tobacco character. There is a strong toffee malt backbone, as well as some faint pine and orange notes from the long-faded hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. As expected, this 6-year-old Double IPA has become more of a barleywine, but I am still excited I got to try it. Now, if I could just track down a Divine Reserve No. 1 I would have tried all 12 in the series.

Bottle thanks to mar) Pour is amber with no head..Nose is caramel malts, leather, spice, alcohol..Taste is spice, toffee, malts, leather, caramel..This sitting so long turned it into a barley wine pretty much.

9 year old bottle. props to sloth, fly, Kaggie97, via coldbrewky. same burnt orange hue with slight ruby tones. no head jsut foam on the edges. sweet caramel nose with dark fruit. bigger body than the #11. caramel still melts around the mouth. Hop flavor has fadded, but bitterness remains at the same level.

Thanks to the slob/sloth and Fly/Kaggie for getting me this brew. Consumed directly after the 11. Yes for nine years old it is a bit faded but still quite consumable. Light malty nose...some plum. Up front it is a bit bigger than the 11. It is a hop mirage at this point...bitterness is still there but not overtly detectable as hop bitterness. A light tinny finish punctuates the even and long mouthfeel that is reminiscent of an English Barley wine. Groovy.

Slicher Hopfengeruch, eher mild. Sehr aromatisch-hopfiger Antrunk, den ich nur in abgeschwchter Form erwartet htte. Der Alkohol ist hier bereits erkennbar. Sehr aromatisch und wichtig auch ausgeglichen, stark, sehr malzig werdend. Cremig, der Abgang ist etwas weniger wrzig aber weiterhin noch stark aromatisch. Weiter angenehm, insgesamt milder werdend, bis noch eine sliche Note bleibt. Etwas gealtertes Auftreten. Vielen Dank an den Doppelbock! 10/12/10/13/12/12

Poured this 2 years after it was bottled 9/11/2008, wish I would have remembered it was a double ipa before now. Pours a cloudy murky deep amber without much of a head. The aroma has got some citrusy grapefruity hops left in it and some strong caramel malt in there as well. Taste is about the same as the smell. The hops are there, but not in your face like most big ipas. Taste is grapefruit, caramel, pine and resin. Ill bet this was a monster fresh. Creamy tart mouthfeel, thick body, ample carbonation. I would have loved to try this fresher but it somehow got lost in my cellar. Good brew that Ill bet was great a couple of years ago.

From the saint Arnold divine reserve vertical tasting @ the common table on Dallas. This beer pours a golden amber with little to no head. The aromas are citrus, closet aromas and dough. The mouthfeel is sticky, bitter and not as hoppy considering its age. It has q little more acidity and less hop in the mouth. I liked it. Cheers!

A: The pour is a burnt orange/copper color with a nice white head. S: Sort of what you would expect from an old DIPA...oranges, sugar, and sweet malts. Theres also some vanilla, which is sort of surprisingly. T: Still a really nice bitterness to this beer, which is surprising after such a long time. A semi-sweet malt character, oranges, orange peels, and again the hint of vanilla. M: Medium body with a fairly lively level of carbonation. D: One of the better beers of the series, actually. This is sort of along the lines of how Stone 10th is now.
