Pours opaque, with creamy frothy tan head. Lots of lacing. Light, fruity hops, understated. Malt is smooth and not overpowering. Very easy to drink.
Ok I think things are changing with this. Pictures show a dark ale, mine is a tan Rye IPA. Has a unique flav, alcohol with a hint of, citrus. Long finish that lingers on the tongue. Would drink it again but might not be first choice. hotstuff (5258) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - NOV 22, 2014
Rated on 02-18-2013 at Saint Arnold B.C. This beer pours a medium sized tan head with a short retention, opaque black body and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, pine and citrus hops. The flavor is moderately bitter, citrus, pine, earthy hops on the light side, and roasted malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is quaffable and the roasted characteristics reminded me of a stout. gruberm (358) - - APR 23, 2014

alas, I think the only good beers Saint Arnold puts out is Endeavour and Pumpkinator. This one pours a cola brown, with the tiniest of heads that disappears almost immediately. The nose is roasted malts, not much else. Taste is more of the same, not picking up any hops at all, and this is supposed to be a dark IPA? Negative. Watery mouthfeel, just not very good. 12 oz bottle courtesy of an extra via trade on BA. Thanks. Pours a blackish dark hue, not opaaque as edges show ruby red glow pretty prominently. A frothy brown head atop stays as a decent filmy layer, sits atop ok and laces ok. Aromas present fruity elements, citrus, and florals. A gentle pine element, toasty malts and faint cocoa. Soapy hops, a weird fruity/yeasty vibe at times that is a bit off. Biscuit, marmalade, oxidation and wet paper. Initial is lighter end of the fold, a bit underbodied with some decent bitterness, toast and florals meets just a faint push of citrus. Some toastiness, bread and biscuit. Gentle smokey/ash elements, dryness, earth and faint cocoa nib elements. The hop element gets a bit more intense in the back, ashy elements merging with an earthy and floral distinct dry bitter twang. That funny nose element has died out a bit, the backend showing a bit more body, cocoa nib and dryness really comes in more firmly. Earthy hop, faint citrus, some resiny pine but not as intense as I’d like it. The malt bill seems dry, a bit brash. Underbodied overall (but better into the backend and finish) and a bit brash at times, the nose has something wrong with it.. Either oxidation notes or some odd yeasty feel. The beer itself is solid, if unneccessarily 7% ABV. Ok. Not something I’d likely revisit, perhaps some age added to some detracting oxidized hops on the nose.
5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - OCT 22, 2013
Bottle:   Deep cola, thin foamy sandy head, little lacing.   Light roast, a touch of soy on the nose.   Moderate roastiness on the tongue.   Falls off quickly, very little bitterness.   Black Pale Ale maybe?   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Watery roasted malt finish, with very little in the way of hoppiness.   Light, and a snoozer of a Black IPA.   Thanks Bill! dlihcsnatas (779) - Temple, Texas, USA - SEP 23, 2013
Black brew with a short lived tan head. Smells like grapefruit and roasted malt. Taste is citrus, pine, and roasted malts. While it is interesting it just is not doing it for me. Bottle. Poured soda brown with a tan head that settled to a ring. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and a light hop backing. The flavor found pin upfront and a roasted finish. Medium body.
