Bottle. Brownish black in color, beige colored head, and that’s it. The smell is pine, hops, malt, roast, chalk, and leaves. The taste is hops, bitterness, pine, roast, and grass. Sammy (12195) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 4, 2013
Extra from Steve. Who would expect a dark deep blue bottle would be a black ipa from St. Arnold? Fairly basic, too much roast, overwhelming the hops. Deep black colour, a bit of smoke with the roast aroma. OK drinkability. llcooldave (1217) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - MAY 4, 2013
Black in the glass... strong citrus grapefruit aroma. Clean bitter roasted flavors mixed with a slight bittersweet citrus aftertaste. Overall, a drinkable... not to complex but tasty and enjoyable. Cavie (4717) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAY 1, 2013
Bottle from Central Market. Pours a dark orange color with a fairly decent head. White and bubbly. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy, with noticeable fruit notes. Yeasty. Flavor is hoppy bitter with some hints of malty roast. Good.

Black in color with a khaki head. Big roasted malt and pine aromas. Fairly herbal, some chocolate, and a bit of blueberry. Spicy and bready, too. The flavor is somewhat bitter with a lot of roasted malt and pine. Herbal and spicy hops, a bit of earth, and chocolate. Interesting dried blueberry flavor on the finish.

Deep, dark brown in color with an off-white head, this beer has an incredibly unique aroma that’s bready, spiced well, and reminds me of an international grocery store. It’s really, really interesting and really great... but different! The flavor isn’t as great, though, with a weird malty, roasted plant-like muskiness that almost tastes like burnt plastic. It’s good, but very weird. I almost don’t know what to say about this beer. ttutony (920) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 16, 2013
Deep brown almost black in the glass. Minimal head. Aroma of toasted malt and hops. Chocolate malt and balanced hop bitterness on the palate. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - APR 16, 2013
(Draught) Pours a black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, mustiness, grain, light citrus, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, grass, cocoa, caramel, pine, earthiness, and burnt toast with a dry, bitter finish. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - APR 15, 2013
Draught. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose has some subtle hoppiness, but not too strong. Taste is a little bitter with some slight roasting in there. Quite smooth. crajun (1242) - , Texas, USA - APR 14, 2013
I still don’t understand this style and not sure if this is a good representative. Still a good beer. On tap at Holy Grail. Above average scores for dark brown pour and palate. Some roasted flavor with hops at end
