Poured into a pint glass out of a bomber in Strange Brew, Shreveport -- Aroma is strong cinnamon and brown sugar. Color is a pretty caramel. Flavor is a hopped bitter extension of the aroma. For an IPA Im sure Im drinking this post - best by date but it is still a very enjoyable brew.

This beer has a nice golden color with orange tones, nice white head , and light lacing on the glass. Aroma was slight with some pine from the hops and cinnamon became more apparent in the aroma with tasting. No alcohol aftertaste, medium body with sweetness in the taste. There is a nice lingering bitterness on the finish. Very nice beer for the style and appropriately spiced.

Saint Arnold Sailing Santa (2013 version) has a medium, soapy off-white head, a mostly clear, golden-orange, appearance, a few stray ascending bubbles, and moderate lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is essentially sugary sweetness and undifferentiated spices. The flavor is mostly a graham cracker taste, and no alcohol or bitterness is present, here. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Saint Arnold Sailing Santa (2013 version) finishes sweet, rich, and gimmicky. Overall, this is "another one of those flavored beers". RJT

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/7/2013. Pours fairly crystal clear deep orange amber color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, apple, toast, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, floral, light pine, and herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, spice, and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, toast, cinnamon, apple, nutmeg, ginger, clove, floral, light pine, and herbal earthiness. Light earthy pine/herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, apple, cinnamon, toast, ginger, nutmeg, floral, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt, hop, and spice flavors; with a great malt/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice spiced IPA style. All around good balance and complexity of the Christmas ale and IPA counterparts; and very smooth and crisp to drink. I really enjoyed this one.
