COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Santo is a black Kölsch, which technically doesn’t exist as a style, but this is as close as we can come to describing it. Essentially it is brewed using a Kölsch recipe with the addition of Munich and black malt. It is light bodied and floral yet with a distinct dark malt flavor. Our goal was to create a dark yet refreshing beer that would pair perfectly with a plate of enchiladas. The label artwork is by Houston artist Carlos Hernandez who is known for his Day of the Dead Rock Star series of paintings and prints.

Tap at Craft Pride on a Sat night in Austin. Peaceful calm before lube music kicks in again. Pint glass. Pitch black color with minimal but present head. Nose is roasty and nutty like a subdued porter. Taste is mildly roasted malt with subtle coffee characteristics. Very easy to drink and has a pleasant finish. Maybe a small hint of smoke. Nothing you're going to run home to brag about but a solid rendition of the style.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2017 Pours a dark Amber. Real strong caramel smell and toast/bread smell. Lighter then I expected. Flavor has a light roast with a slight coffie taste. Drinkable but nothing special.

Really in impressed with santo. I remember it being better in the past but just doesn't have the flavor profile I am looking for in a beer. Not horrible though, but wouldn't go out of my way for it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Earthy, toast, a hint of caramel. Pours a murky dark iced tea with a thin, quickly fading off white head. Light bodied. Effervescent. Earthy. Toast. Clean finish. Easy drinking.

Can - Pours dark amber/brown, big head because I poured it that way. Aroma of slightly scorched pancakes, toffee. Flavors of dark roasted grain, hints of toffee, a bit of sweet malt, a pleasant bitter ending. For the style, it was just fine.

Pours dark copper, fleeting head, fizzy. Lots of caramel on the nose. Same on the tongue, some apple and tobacco too. Like a Shiner for grownups I guess.
