3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
Aroma of roasted meat, yes meat. Roasted malts with hints of chocolate and coffee. Pours a dark rich brown with a mostly diminishing tan head and no lacing. The taste is initially like the nose - roasty. Some coffee notes present in the middle with a grainy finish and aftertaste. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, while not watery, I would have liked a little more body to be present. Stil,l this is an enjoyable Texas beer to look forward to each winter.

Pours from 12oz bottle a very dark brown with a large tannish head of foam that shrinks slowly but stays around for the entire session.
The smell has some nice sweet malt and roastiness notes.
The taste has a nice big malt bite up front that is quite sweet but not cloying. I can also taste roasted malt mixed in with some chocolate and a bit of dark fruit and just a touch of hop bitterness in the finish. It kind of reminds me of a Milk Stout...Good stuff!
Thanks to Wasatch for this sample of another nice brew from Saint Arnold! BeerRenter76 (1053) - Texas, USA - MAY 9, 2017
Originally rated on 1/15/09. S.A winter stout pours a deep black body, the thin tan head doesnt leave much lace. Aroma of toasted malt and earth. Flavor is sweet which rapidly fades into earth, finishes with a slight espresso / chocolate flavor. A bit on the watery side though. Overall a little light for a true winter stout, but hey this is Texas and it doesnt get that cold so a lighter brew works. DSG (15403) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - APR 26, 2016
Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks David Cohen. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast. Sweet flavor with Stale chocolate, roast, a bit of cardboard. Medium-bodied. stevoj (5864) - Boise, Idaho, USA - FEB 8, 2016
Draft at Zax. Kind of ho-hum. Head is a bit light, weak nose and taste, which may be muted due the ice cold serving temperature. A bit of the roast grain bitterness appears in the finish, but not enough to salvage this beer. snoworsummer (6273) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 3, 2016
Draft at the HOU BWW. Pours dark nut brown with a fizzy tan head. Tastes like roasted malt, nutty, some dark chocolate, lightly burnt toast, and smoke. Light body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like smoky roasted malt, dark chocolate, nutty, and some burnt coffee.

Pours dark. White head. This stout lacks in flavor. You can taste roast flavor but it leaves you really quick. bodega95 (85) - - MAY 3, 2015
Easy to drink. Not to dry more on the sweet side with some chocolate notes. Well balanced. ryanscourt (1567) - Latrobe, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 16, 2015
Enjoyable but a little watery. Short on flavors. Probably more true to stout that the super hopped and malted ones but would still like a little more to be going on. TizzleJizzle (792) - Garland, Texas, USA - FEB 8, 2015
12 oz bottle. Poured a clear reddish brown color with a razer thin tan top. Taste of roasted and toasted malts, sweet chocolate, and little to no coffee flavor. Medium carbonation, boring medium body. Meh williamstome (2038) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 28, 2015
Deep ruddy brown pour, roasty aroma, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavor with chocolate finish. Okay, a little dull.
