75 cl bottle @ Timo A, BBE 03/2010
Aroma has malty notes typical to old beers. Also raisins and hints of cardboard. Flavour is rather malty with some metallic savor, some raisins and hints of metal. Quite well preserved, even though the taste is a bit short.

750 ml bottle, BBE 03/2010, thanks Timo A. Pours a cloudy amber colour with a white head. Aroma of caramel, plums and some bread. Flavour of caramel malts, bread, plums, peach, cheesecake and hay. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Very smooth and fruity brew. Aging seems to work with this beer.

Bottle (75cL). Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie, cake), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of Mandarin orange, cantaloupe, cinnamon, black tea, alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, syrupy/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Another delightful brew from the Page 24 line. Life-affirming kind of estery-fruity aroma chock full of Mandarin (think Satsuma) orange and cantaloupe, two of my favorite fruits of all time (I’mma let you finish, but seriously...of all time!). Along with sweet malt notes, floral hops, and cobwebby yeast (and no off notes) it’s an easy 8 or 9 for aroma. I will admit the syrupy sweetness is a bit much in the mouth, so it’s a challenge to drink a lot of it, but for a glass or two’s worth it’s delicious. I know it’s a winter warmer and all, but balance is critical no matter what IMHO and frankly this could use more bitterness. Drink on the chilly side and don’t blow out too much of the carbo on the pour, and you’ll have a better experience...both help a bit to counter the sugars.

Bottle [750ml] shared w/ friends at the ’2nd Annual Buffalo Cask Festival’ -- c/o swoopjones. Pours a hazy orange-copper with a spare creamy off-white head. Aroma’s weird, and not in a good way. It’s malty along with yeast and fruit but there’s an oddness to it that I can’t describe that I did not care for. Watery, somewhat sweet flavour of citrus fruit, light spices, caramel and alcohol. Dry, spicy finish. Average bodied. Just O.K.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - OCT 24, 2010
Pours a deep copper amber with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet toasty caramel malty nose with some light holiday spice and light fruity notes. Starts with some light toasty caramel sweetness and a touch light fruits and clove before a slightly drier and earthy finish. A pretty true to style and complex biere de garde.

A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s Night of the Gaylords.
Dirty yellow brown with a thin off white head. Nothing special really. Very yeasty and sugary sweet with a bit of bread and cinnamon. Spicy finish. Blah.
