UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 75cl bouteille from Cellier des Arcades, Arras. Pours a hazy gold with a large white head. Aroma has a lot of rich pale malts and not much else. Flavour has a good deep malt body, with grassy hops in the finish and lingering dry yeast characters. Feels light but the booze can hit a man hard at the end of a long day of travelling. Worth checking out but not the best Biere de Garde I’ve had on this trip.

15/VIII/2012 on tap @ Internationaal Streekbierenfestival (Zwevegem) - BB: n/a (2012-937) Thanks to Erwin for sharing all the beers together!

Clear deep orange beer, big creamy white head, pretty stable, little adhesive. Aroma: lots of cabbages! Citrus, pretty spicy, bit herbal, some overripe fruits, grassy. Taste: more cabbages, yuk!, Brussel sprouts, bitter hops, bit grassy, liquorish. Aftertaste: bit off, cabbages again, bitter touch, vegetables.

Fransk blondine, Biere de garde. 0,75 flaske 6,9% fra polet. Smaksrik og ganske lettdrikkelig, men litt for tørr og med skarp bitterhet.

Very good beer. Tastes like a saison, dry and bitter. Herbs and grass. Nice exemple of this beerstyle.

faroeviking (10910) - FAROE ISLANDS - AUG 16, 2012
Botella. Unclear golden. White big head. Fruit, yeast and malt in the aroma. Ok mouthfeel. Flavour is fruity malty with some citrus, bit spice too, medium bitterness. Dry.

750ml swingtop bottle pours a hazy blonde color with a 2 finger white head tht leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and yeast with some spicy notes. Taste is fruity and grainy malt sweetness with some yeasty notes and a mild citrus bitterness. Light to medium body with abundant carbonation. A very nicely balanced brew that is quite refreshing and tasty. Highly recommended.

This beer is a pleasure from when you see it in the shelf till you empty the bottle. I have to say this is one of the most balanced beers i have tasted.

Hazy, medium golden body with a small, frothy, white head that is quite short-lived and leaves a decent amount of lacing on my plastic cup(!). I find rating aroma outdoors extremely difficult, but it would be impolite to go indoors and leave my BBQ guests in the garden, so I remain seated and try to catch some scents from the before mentioned plastic cup, while the wind blows and the fumes from the grill try to trick my nose. The aroma is moderate to light (but then again, the lack of intensity might be due to outdoor rating), with pale malts, fruits and yeast. Moderate to light sweet taste with some acidity and a moderate bitter finish. The flavours are far more complex than the aroma, confirming that I shouldn’t be allowed to judge the aroma outdoors: Fruits (with faint banana), spices, yeast, perfume, herbs, resin, honey and some alcohol in the form of white wine notes. The finish is quite alcoholic, but it still feels fairly well integrated. Medium body, dry to oily texture, soft carbonation. A good one!
[75 cl bottle, shared with Rikke, Tor, Gunnvor, Anders and the Missus, enjoyed after the palate has taken some serious beating by several drinks and various BBQ dishes]
