An amber ale brewed in the spirit of the abbey ales of Belgium. Lectio Divina gets its color from candi sugar, as it is made without dark or crystal malts. It is brewed with the same care and attention to the Art of Brewing that is practiced in the monastic breweries of Belgium.

Bomber from Beer of the Month club, served in tulip glass. Aged the bottle for 2 years. Cloudy brown and high carbonation - cork blew out when the cage was loosened. Tart dark fruit and red wine notes, with a dry finish.

Appearance: clear medium amber with two fingers of fluffy light beige head, moderate retention and minimal lacing. (3/5) Aroma: stone fruit, dark fruit, apples, leather, horseblankety funk. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter, light tart and funk. (8/10) Palate: medium-light body, lively to moderate carbonation, lightly tart and funky gently warming finish. (3/5) It was obvious, from the way it did its damnedest to uncork itself, that this desperately wanted to be a foamy gusher, and even with the gentlest of handling it ended up with an impressive head. It didn’t retain as well as might be expected, though, and left behind no lacing to speak of, while the carbonation dropped off fairly rapidly from lively to moderate. A fair bit too high in ABV to conform well to the style of Saison in my opinion, though to be fair they do call it a “Belgian Style Ale” and describe it as a cross between Saison and Abbey Dubbel. I can see elements of both, and it’s an interesting hybrid, but it’s also a bit clunky. On the up side, the relatively high ABV is well integrated and it never becomes a challenge to drink. (15/20)

Tried aging this one with lousy results: Appearance: amber/brown with a nice tan head that disappears quickly. its hazy and looks more like a Belgian Dubbel would than a saison. Aroma: the expected plums and raisins and brown sugars and yeasty fruityness but combined with wet cardboard, horse blanket oxidation. Palate: its has oily texture, medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste: carries from aromas. No bitterness from hops. Honey-like sweetness is to the point of harshness. Dark fruits and brown sugar. Barnyardy off-flavors are all over along with soy saucy umami thing going on. Finishes with alcohol warming and lasting harsh sweet flavors

Kinda surprised this didnt score a little higher on the reviews, It poured a nice murky root beer brown body, and a thick tan cap. Aroma was kinda like apple jolly rancher. Mouthfeel was decent and smooth. Flavor of fig, and plum, although it is sweet there is a certain tartness that brings a little balance to it. Overall i felt it was a decent brew not the best representation of the style but pretty decent overall. Originally rated on 11/28/08.

Pours a golden amber color with big fluffy head. Aromas of citrus, grass, yeast, and some dusty notes. Starts spicy effervescent, then to some grassy funky highlights...nice brett finish.

2012 said the cork as it hit me in the head as the cage was nearly off. It then proceeded to dent the ceiling of the kitchen, and then gush out of the bottle. I was, after recovering from the moment of concussion, able to pour the beer into two glasses before all was lost. Limpo was laughing his ass off. After that bit of entertainment/drama, I was able to enjoy this brew. Gentle and balanced. Saison funk and power in one. A nice start to the session. Quickly settling head.

Shared from the bottle...in case you’re wondering, it’s still alive....take cover and aim away from face when opening. Cloudy caramel brown in the glass. Funky barn nose. Dry malt, leather, earthy goodness. Warming finish.

The yeast and herbal aroma of this beer clash a little with the malt IMO. Not bad, bust dubbel and saison are probably not 2 styles I’d cross again. OK.
