Interesting that it is still possible to find the 2001 reserve saison, and that a saison (a beer for the season, not to be stored) is still drinking so well 8 years later. Lovely hazy appearance and great lacing. A little spiciness, cloves and pepper, mostly just bone dry now. jgb9348 (6581) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 24, 2009
Nice crisp golden coloured body with a bit of haze and a nice white head. Aroma of fresh grass, a good malt and subtle yet refined hops. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malt up front with the grassy and yeastie feel of a saison. Aftertaste shows some complexity - white sugar and apricots come out as well. Overall, a decent beer, not amazing - but definitely worth trying! I sampled this beer on draught at Rustico in Alexandria, Virginia on 15-January-2009. Draft at BT. Pours a pale yellow hazy body. Sweet fruit aroma with a spoiled fruit flavor, bubble gum banana, light citrus and a dry finish. Not crazy about this. JohnQPublic (387) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - NOV 20, 2008
Draught @ BTAH. ’05 vintage. Pours a pale yellow, cloudy, with a white head. Aroma is mellow, banana, spicy yeast,a bit of clove, citrus. Taste is light, crisp wheat body, bit of banana, with a dryness from the yeast. Mouthfeel is fluffy, light bodied. Really an interesting beer to try after aging. Certainly a nice beer, but I found it to be much closer to a with than to a saison at this point. Still, delicious nonetheless. JoeMcPhee (10129) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 30, 2007
2001 vintage. Pale straw/yellow colour, very thick and persistent white head. Good looking beer. Aroma is great with loads of apricot fruitiness and a clove/coriander spiciness. A bit of fresh wheatiness, soft spice and a hint of black pepper. Banana/clove and a bright lemony citrus. Some lovely juiciness with tropical fruit (pineapple and papaya). A bit sweeter than I’d prefer, but that’s a bit of quibbling given all the good stuff going on in here. A very bright and expressive yeast was used with lovely juicy results. Drinking very well at six years old.

Tap at Blind Tiger: 2001 Vintage sampled October 2007: (Garret Oliver attended and made a heart warming speech about brewing as well) Poured a cloudy light golden/yellowish with a white frothy head that lasted. Bright bouquet of lemon-peel, coriander, and peppery citrus like spices. Fizzy mouth feel. Grainy flavors upfront with a mild wheat tart sharpness and mild hints of oxidation. The citrus flavors are dominated by a subdued lemon character. Finish leans toward grassy, and has a subtle lemon-rind bitterness. Not very complex, but better than expected. Held up somewhat well for these 6+ years; especially the hop character. I wish I was around to try the 2001 batch fresh. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - SEP 13, 2007
draft @ Coles Buffalo NY. Found some old notes cleaning up the desk. Clean, crissp, citrus, medium spiciness. Overall pretty good saison puzzl (3264) - New York, New York, USA - APR 13, 2007
On tap at Blind Tiger, 2005 keg sampled in 2007. Peppery and phenolic nose, slightly floral, lacking in much character. Big bubble gum in the flavor, olives, and some other unusual notes for a saison. Really, this beer tasted more like some weird hefe/tripel hybrid than a saison. Not great. zach8270 (4021) - Henrietta, New York, USA - OCT 25, 2006
(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Pale and cloudy yellow color with a lot of white foam. Aroma is very fruity and spicy with lots of orange, banana, and clove. Flavor is very spicy as well with a lot of yeast and cloves at the front and a spicy and fruity middle. Decent amount of citrus and a dry finish. bager (2120) - Copenhagen N, DENMARK - JUN 9, 2006
