UPDATED: AUG 3, 2017 This year’s version of the special dry-hopped Saison Dupont, this time using a new Slovenian hop variety called Styrian Eureka, not sure if I encountered this in any beer before... From the usual 37.5 cl bottle with cork, which opens with a loud bang followed by a whiff of ’smoke’, but no gushing. Very thick and dense, rocky, egg-white head leaving behind a thick, continuous patch of lacing and retaining extremely well, resting on top of an orangey-hued ’old gold’ coloured, initially almost clear beer with very fierce fizz pushing upwards, sustaining the pillowy head; evidently turning a hazy orangey peach with sediment. Interesting, sweetish and spicy, as well as earthy aroma of apricots, grapefruit peel, orange zest, peach, honey, fresh cloves, sugarloaf, basil, kumquat, Muscat wine, sweet cicely, freshly baked white bread, hints of nougat, soap, blackcurrants, camomile flowers, even slight liquorice and juniper berries somewhere. Fruity onset, estery with hints of peach, pineapple, red apple and light banana, sweetish with softly sourish edge, medium carbo (actually softer than expected based on the looks), smooth and ’full’ mouthfeel. Pleasant bready malt body, ’crusty’ and a tad cereally, with ongoing fruitiness and spicy phenols above, increasingly becoming firmly hop bitter, with eventually a long, dry, spicy, leafy finish, with lots of retronasal spicy, floral and zesty notes, grapefruity aspects, resinous and matching well with the bready malt sweet backbone. One of the more expressive editions in this series, clearly, I had no idea this Styrian Eureka had such a rich, fruity, spicy and explicit profile but it sure is interesting to get acquainted with it in this manner. Maybe not everyone will appreciate a hop variety with this character to appear in this acclaimed saison, but for me this combo works very well - I might even find this the best rendition of Saison Dupont Cuve Dry Hopping so far.

14/VII/17 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: IV/2020 (2017-1001)

Little cloudy blond to orange beer, lots of light-coloured specks floating around under a big creamy solid white head, pretty stable, adhesive, a bit of lacing in the glass. Aroma: some marijuana, grassy, hay, some cow fodder, grains, bit dusty, spicy touch, cardamom and cloves. MF: very lively carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet start, yeast, lots of ripe banana and banana peel, sweet malts. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, some citrus, very yeasty, coriander, banana peel. Not very pleasant, although I think the yeast plays a bigger part in that, than the hops. Or maybe not, after reading up about the kind of hops being used...

Good, lightly yellow head over faintly hazy darker yellow beer. Catty hops, dried herbs, dried chamomile, sunflowerseed. Quite spicy, and flavourprofile fully determined by this chamomile-like thing, more than probably the hops. Bit slick, light body. NON, mon cher Olivier! These hops are NOT what the classic Saison Dupont needs! Thanks, M & L V.! 6/4/7/3/13

Really good and fruity fragrance. Fruity but also yeast in flavor. Okay bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth for a long time. Not a bad beer at all. But the beer did not fit me. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
