Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.

For export relabeled as "Vieille Provision".

Corked 750 ml shared with the mother. This thing exploded as soon as I untwisted the wire. Almost took my eye out! Yikes. Classic saison. Solid flavor of spices, zesty lemon, and a farmhouse like dust. Fresh, lively, clean, and a stand up example of the style. A good place to start.

Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours a pale hazy yellow with little particles in the liquid. A fairly large foamy white head on top. Flavour is spicy with a lightly sweet banana touch. Kind of lively mouthfeel. Quite dry flavours, with a light spiciness. A touch vinious. Okay in its balance with ginger, pepper and yeast in the finish.

Absolutely phenomenal beer. A pleasure to pour, and drink. Nice packaging, with an monumental head upon pour. Some sweetness in the palate, nice, clean finish. Wish I could find this more often.

Bottle @ Gollem, Amsterdam. Not much more to add here. The benchmark of good saisons. Pleasant to drink, a cornucopia of flavors throughout and quite pleasing overall. One of the best in class.

This seemed like a 2/3 Belgian ale and 1/3 Champagne crossbreed. Not much funk and not complex. The first half of the bottle was not as good as the 2nd which had a slightly creamy mouth feel. OK but nothing special.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2007 Bottle from Total Wine in Naples, FL. Pours a hazy gold with a thick frothy head. Wonderful complex aroma of lemon rind, fresh hay, yeast, fruit. Very nice feathery and earthly texture, with a non-prickly carbonation. The flavor is so well-balanced between the malt, sweetness, dryness, and bitterness. Flavors that come out are lemon, yeast, spice, pineapple, bread, and herbal hops. Finish is semi-dry and yeasty. Not much sourness. A classic example of the style and not a huge palate killer. Pairs well with seafood or cheese.

This tastes more like a regular Belgian ale to me than what I associate saisons with, but this is still great. Aroma of funk and dust with a hint of yeast and light fruit. Pour was beautiful...cloudy medium gold with a huge pillowy 4 finger white head that was there the whole drink. The taste was extremely yeasty with a light fruitiness and a crisp dry finish. Not overly sweet, but there is some candy sugar, banana and spice as well. As it warms, there is a lot more flavor coming out. Not as funky as I like my saisons, but still awesome.

Not really like anything I’ve had- I’m somewhat new to the rarer belgians. Reminds me more of a yeasty champagne than anything else. Very much so on the mouthfeel. The taste is very dry to me (at least for a belgian beer). Give this one a try.
