Saison Dupont is a classic Belgian farmhouse ale. This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.

For export relabeled as "Vieille Provision".

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2008 May 2007 . Tap at the Muddy Pig. Blonde color, curiously clear. Peppery aroma with a dusty disposition. A sharp zing of dill weed follows. A pungent kind of green apple and white grape fruitiness on the tongue. Rather a pistachio toned sweet-dry finish. Slightly thin palate, vaguely lacking in mystique considering the style. Refreshing however. 7/3/7/3/16 3.6

July 2008. 2007 375 ml bottle. Hazed amber orange appearance. Grassy must, fresh pears, vanilla, honey and banana in the aroma. Some farmlike stink, and fairly simple in lemon lime soda and doughiness, before hints of spices and vinegars begin to linger; specifically, champagne vinegar and fennel seeds. Flavor is equivalently calm, not dry or brisk enough, but rather full of a peachy, fat, white bread, honey and citrus sweetness.

Halfway, however, the must settles in, and the dust of spices overcomes the sweetness. Fruitiness becomes generally more chewy and fulsome, with a satisfying and generous tart sweetness. The vague nuttiness, the briskness of rosy floral bitterness, and the affectionate sweetness honey slowly dawdle towards one another, and it’s an endearingly slow embrace in the end. Medium body is softly carbonated, and dominantly fruity in texture. Finishes on a stony pit fruit bitterness; apricot for the most part, drawing out on the caress of floral bitterness. Not wholly stunning, and I think I’ve yet to find the elusive archetypical experience with Saison Dupont. Yet, a gem is a gem, even if it’s not as precious as perceived. 8/4/9/4/18 4.3

Aroma: Very spicy, pleasant phenols. Aroma of straw, some hop, and some hints of vanilla. Pineapple fruitiniess. Bubble gum esters. A brettanoymces character and clove-like phenol develops more as it warms. Appearance: Huge head, well sustaining. White, fluffy head. Somewhat cloudy, blond with hints of orange. Nice head makes for remarkable brussels lace. Flavor: Spiciness again dominates, with a hint of pils malt flavor in the finish. Bubble gum esters in the finish also. Dry. Some light, grassy hop notes in the flavor. Complex. Palate: Very smooth and drinkable, thirst quenching. Overall: Benchmark Saison, what else can be said?

Hazy golden with a dense long lasting head. Floral, spicy and sweet aroma with vanilla, honey, hops, and some tangy yeastiness. Spicy taste, white pepper, coriander, plus honey & vanilla and nice breadiness. Has a bit of a tart bite to it also. Some diacetyl which fits nicely. Finishes dry and spicy. Very heavy carbonation, extremely lively. Nice.

A beautiful saison. Id really like to find any saison even close to this quality readily available. I dunno what it is about the stye, but it just doesnt seem to be around alot. This brew had a really nice refreshing character to it. Pretty light when its all said and done. Very Very Good.

From a 2006 bottle. Opened this up, and was scared when I caught a scent of skunkiness, this faded, and left an aroma with hints of fruit and yeast. The beer itself is beautiful, a hazy, cloudy, dark yellow with about a quarter of an inch head, that faded to about a sixteenth of an inch. The flavor is interesting, theres a start of sourness, with an finish with peppery and earth notes in it. Ill try to pick up a fresher bottle of this that I can keep track of how it was stored to re-rate.

(Bottle) Pours a yellow with a significant amount of floating yeast. White head. Good mouthfeel and body. Spicy aroma, much like a hefeweizen. Taste is much of the same. Dry, sour notes with a hint of fruit (maybe apricot?) and some light allspice. An interesting brew.

750ml bottle. Whoa. The cork popped right when I unscrewed the wire thing. Thats surprising. So beware people. Pours a pale golden color but 99% of the beer is a white head right now. The lace is ridiculous. Incredibly thick. Aroma is sweet, light fruit, yeast, cloves, vanilla, banana. Smells like a hefeweizen. Taste is smooth, lightly spicy, fruity. Very drinkable but balanced. A little more funkiness or character would be nice but this is still a nice beer.
