COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Tasted on 08.07.16. Very pleasant aroma of burned malts with reisins, dried fruits, chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Durable beige head with some lacing. Clear dark brown colour. Sweet bitter-sweet taste of malts, chocolate, fruits and not too annoying alcohol in finish.

Piana wysoka, acz dość gruboziarnista, trwała. Ładnie koronkuje, opadając. W aromacie sos sojowy, karmel, trochę pumpernikla. W smaku przyjemnie gładkie, wysycenie średnie, pasujące do porteru bałtyckiego. W smaku nuty praktycznie te same co w aromacie, z tym, że sos sojowy jest zepchnięty na granicę wyczuwalności. Daje rade.

The temperature of beer was maybe a bit too high when I started drinking, quite good baltic porter anyway.

Saku Estonian Porter is a Baltic Porter by style. Baltic porters are direct descendants of Russian Imperial Stout, a beer style that was brewed by British brewers, and shipped to Russia and the Baltics. Some Baltic breweries, that were lager brewers, decided to do their own versions of Imperial Stout, yet did so with their lager yeast strains, which are bottom fermenting. This bottom fermenting lager version of Imperial Stout became know in the beer world as Baltic porter. Baltic porter is very similar to Imperial stout, but is less fruity, and is rounder and smoother in body. Like all beer styles, there is range within the style, and Saku Estonian Porter falls into the lower end of the scale, being less potent, and lighter in color than the majority of Baltic porters. Saku Estonian Porter pours to a some what murky, deep caramel color, with a thick tan head, and a soft to moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very malt accented, with lots of sweet malty, toasty, and nutty aroma. The palate is firm with lots of sweet and caramel malt flavors on the tongue, and nice touches of toasty malt flavors. This beer finishes with more sweet and caramel malty flavors up front, and ends with a cloying malty finish. This is a delicious, well done, very malt accented brew, that really is a unique version of Baltic porter, quite different from most versions you will find. This beer made a perfect match with an appetizer of pierogies(potato pasta dumplings filled with cheddar cheese and mashed potato) in an onion and butter sauce, with sour cream.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2014 Reddish brown beer with smallish head. Roasted and smoky malts, little bit of grassy hop aromas. Mildly smoky, roasted malts and grassy hops in the end. Pretty thin for a porter, high carbonation.

Muddy brown with light brown head that fades quickly. Aroma is cocoa and hard lake water, grassy. Body is light, coarse, prickly carbonation, slightly syrupy. Mild aftertaste. pleasant but too much blah yeast/lake water aroma.

I was expecting a baltic porter. Definitely not a baltic porter. Little head, and an alcohol nose. Very light, more like a bavarian dark lager,... a poor one,... with a strong taste of alcohol,... and not much behind it. BOOOOHISSSS!

Melko pliisu olut, hajusta voisi kuvitella tummaksi lageriksi. Maku oli kuitenkin hajua monipuolisempi, joka pelasti.
