COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The most delightful way to enjoy Saku Porter would be in front of a fireplace or in candle light during those long and dark winter nights. This beer keeps you warm all through the coldest time of the year. Saku Porter is the ideal accompaniment to roasted meats and game. The fact that porter is also perfectly suited to light various desserts, especially those containing chocolate, may not be that commonly known. The ideal serving temperature for Saku Porter is rather high, 12–14 °C, a typical quality for dark beers. Saku Porter, a unique dark beer with strong taste, is brewed of water, caramel, light and coffee malts, hop and yeast, however, only once a year – for Christmas. Similarly to classical porters, Saku Porter is a strong (alc. 7.5 % of volume) full-bodied beer. A special jewel to Saku Porter is its high, rich, brownish foam.

Note: Originally brewed in Saku at 7.5%, moved to Aldaris and reduced to 7% in winter 2009/2010.

Ruikt zwaar zoet, naar een echte porter. In het hostel uit de fles. Appearance dus niet te zien. Goed mondgevoel en vrij lichte smaak voor de biersoort. Wel lekker!

Barwa brazowa, ciemna. Piana srednia, dosc trwala. Aromat malo zlozony, wyczuwalna palona skórka od chleba, slód i delikatny karmel. W smaku slodkie, czuc kawe, karmel i suszone owoce (wisnia, delikatnie sliwka). Glówne wady to wyczuwalny alkohol, nadajacy malo szlachetnej goryczy i dosc wysokie nagazowanie.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2017 Butelka 500 ml. Ciemnobrunatny kolor z rubinowym refleksem. Piana bezowa, raczej niska ,opada szybko do pierscienia. W zapachu palone slody, czekolada i lekkie lesne owoce.

A, goryczka raczej przyjemna. Zaznaczone, ale nie przeszkadza.
Odczucie: Wytrawnie, niskie nasycenie, poprawnie

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is dark malt, dried dark fruits, raisins, cocoa, sweet milk chocolate, caramel, with a touch of coffee. Flavour is fairly sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Some tasty chocolate and dark malt in the aroma., enjoyable, especially for an industrial-brewed Porter.

promontor (153) - HUNGARY - MAY 1, 2017
0.5l bottle from a Polish supermarket (Krakow or Wroclaw). Dark, thick, almost black body. Silky, thick, brown head. Not very persistent but still I had time to taste it, sweet taste mixed with roasted nuts and some sourness of rye bread. The beer itself has similar taste. Dominantly sweet. But then you have quite a lot of complexity: roasted nuts, almond, red fruits. Next sip offers cocoa and milk chocolate. And so on, complexity rules. Silky mouthfeel moderate carbonation, rather seductive. Sweet aftertaste accompanied by some roasted bitterness. Very well composed complex dessert beer.

Bottle. Only mid brown really with a beige head that’s soon a coat. Aroma has roast, coffee, dried fruit (figs, sultanas), caramel. 7- So it tastes. There’s a bit of grassy bitterness too. On the bockish end of these, but a nice beer nonetheless. Just a little more grunt form the roasted side of things or a little more bitterness would have been good.

500ml bottle from Carrefour Express, Warsaw (3.99 PLN):
This one was quite a big, strong beer that opened with a lot of sweetness thanks to the chocolate & caramel flavours sitting on top of a sugary base & some warming alcohol nearer the end. There was a nice complexity to this one as well as a good balance, I felt it was slightly stronger than a 6.9% beer should be but it was still highly drinkable & one well worth trying; I’d go as far as to say that I’d have it again if it was more readily available in the UK.

Pours black with a small head. Nose shows caramel fudge, toasty malt and vegemite. Flavours include caramel, booze, liquorice, sweet sugary malt. A bit cloying.
