Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy long-lasting light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, grassy hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a dry grassy nettle hop bitter, light grapefruit citrus palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. This la a black IPA if ever I saw one despite what it says on the pump clip. MeadGuide44 (1) - - MAR 19, 2017 does not count

Vladivostok (489) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - MAR 10, 2015
Black, ruby light through at the edges, dense beige head, good lacing
Aroma of soft dark malts, nice mellow roast, no burnt stuff, some dark fruits
Taste of soft dark malts, dark fruits, hint of cola, good mellow roast, soft dark chocolate, smooth malts, quite deep malts in this, really nice
Palate - Medium body, soft sweet, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, mellow roast.
Overall - Very good stout, good condition, one of the best beers on my trip
Less opaque than most stouts and similarly rather less roast with some caramel induced sweetness. Bitterness too was not particularly marked. I know that the head on cask beer is largely in the hands of the pourer but my heart sinks when I see a stout served up virtually lifeless with just the odd sudsy bubble to distinguish it from used engine oil. This was probably quite a decent beer but the presentation didn’t help its cause. evergreen0199 (3386) - Northwood, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2015
