Opaque mahogany, lasting dense tan head, creamy full body, perfect medium-high carbonation.Rook99 (3) - Ohio, USA - JUN 16, 2002 does not count
Aroma: lots of dark chocolaty malt, metallic minerality, leafy hops, and bready yeast, with hints of silage and alcohol and nutty oats.
Taste: dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, bready yeast, leafy hops, and hints of licorice and cola.
Great balance. No charr or astringency.
An awesome and complex version of a porter that I can't get enough of. The range of flavors(chocolate, smoke, caramel, coffee, roasted malts, plum, prunes, and on and on) is simply amazing and delicious. Just roll a sip of this around you mouth and let the bevy of flavors show up. Each sip brings a new combination of tastes. I can't prasie this enough. The finish has a little bitterness to it, but it fits right in alongside all the other flavors, and cuts the end off right where it should. noelcb (271) - Toledo, Ohio, USA - FEB 27, 2005
Nice black color, sparse head. Aromas of vanilla and banana. Tastes like a hoppy dark lager. Notes of citrus, malt, rye, ginger and hops. A mouthful brings bubbles galore but it’s a bit thin. Just a well-balanced old-recipe porter but thorougly enjoyable. Good daily drinker. Discofish (152) - USA - SEP 27, 2002

About as much malt complexity as a beer this strength can have. A wonderful porter.

Man this stuff was good. Hard to believe 14 malts could go together so well if ya ask me. the flavors seem to hit even in between sips. body was a little light but it didn't take away from the beer. i'll be definately be picking up more of these with out a doubt. UPDATED: OCT 20, 2008 This is a very nice porter. It’s almost black, reddish brown with a medium tan head slowly shrinking, The smell is a light take on a porter, with chocolate, roasted malt, dark toast, hitns of \prunes and fruit, with hint of coffee and a stronger mocha aroma when warmer. The taste is pleasant light porter taste, smooth, fruity and toasty with light chocolate, light bitterness, fruity, hints of wine, and a peppery quality in the finish. The coffee element in the taste is almost unnoticeable. It’s highly drinkable. bonvivant (169) - Smithfield, Virginia, USA - NOV 14, 2001
What a traet to taste a really full flavored beer that doesn't depend on alcohol for the punch. Very complex-lots of malts. Darkover (1540) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 6, 2002
dark color, roasted taste and finish. One of the best English beers I've tried. No skunks here. Quetzalcoatl (153) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 17, 2004
Had on tap; Deep brown/red body with a thin tan head that left plenty of lacing. The aroma is a bit weak, but puts out some roasted malt notes. The flavor is fantastic, heaps of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and finishes off bitter and dry with great hop flavor. Very good.
