The palate is fresh, piercing and focused, with soft malt overtones and pronounced citrus flavours. A strong focus of taut, lemony, grapefruit on the finish which is balanced by a dry bitterness. Original gravity is 1044; the colour is Gold
Hoptwister was originally brewed by us for Stourbridge based Brewers Wholesale under it’s Blackwater label and it was agreed that a beer this good should go out under the Salopian label! Our original golden 4.5%, Heaven Sent was an excellent example of a midlands style lightly hopped golden ale, however we decided that tastes were changing and that a more characterful beer was required. Hoptwister has a much more pronounced hop flavour and aroma, and a distinct ‘bite’ to it, and we felt that this was the beer to fill the niche.

Pale blond with lacy head. Aroma and flavour have got a load of skunky and soapy hop.

Clear golden beer, creamy white head. Very bitter aroma. Taste is sweet, tart citrus. Aftertaste is a bit sickly sweet but it’s not bad.

Cask. Aroma grapefruit melon and lemon rind. Pours a yellow gold with white lace. Tastes citrus and soft malts with a pleasantly refreshing tang. Another one for the summer

My Bottom Line:
This cushy Golden Ale relies on citrusy hops and their herbal bite to deliver a very pleasant pint.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam covers the misty golden.
-Mineral undercurrents get more and more apparent with every sip.
-Cereals merely offer support here, but it is of the very comfortable sort.
-Citrus fruit allusions are as vast as they are alluring.

On cask at The Old Buttermarket, Canterbury.

Cask at the Builders Arms, dark gold with a lasting white foam, fresh hopsack nose with hints of lemon and grape. Rich hoppy and fruity body, with a beautifully balanced medium-light bitterness.

Honey, floral hops, grain and cereal malts, light citrus fruits. Clear gold, medium, creamy, white head. Grain and cereal malts continue, dough, citrus fruits again. OK Golden Ale, nothing too spectacular though. Cask at Urban Tap House, Cardiff.

[7720-20150925] Cask. Light fruit orange aroma. Clear, pale orange body with a quick foamy white head. Orange bitter grains and smooth grains flavour. Medium body. Tasty, very easy to drink. (7/3/8/3/14) 3.5+
