Keg tap from the Coopers Tavern, Burton-on-Trent. Purplish black and opaque. The tiniest bit of sandalwood on top. Burnt malt, liquorice and pine needles in the scent. Sweet piney taste which I expected to be followed by an extreme bitterness, but no. Finish is more balanced but it is a reasonably sweet beer. Well carbonated with medium fullness in the body. Cask at The Hanging Bat. Black body with a thin beige head. Patchy lacing. Aroma of wood, furniture polish and Ribena. Flavour of brambles, nuts and sweet chocolate. Medium body with a smooth, oily texture. Faint prickle of carbonation. Rich and sweet. A great beer that doesn’t quite hit the heights of Polygraph. Dark, lightly toasted malts, citrus fruits, earthy flavours, pine. Very dark, hazy brown, small, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. Intense toasted malts, lightly burnt flavours, cacao, pine, dark fruits. Quite an intense Black IPA, not bad though. Cask at CASK Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico. (Cask at Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak, London, 20 April 2016) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of caramel, black rye bread and resiny hops. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, a touch of smoke, black rye bread and a balanced piney bitterness. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well made. Nice one. chrisv10 (18208) - DENMARK - APR 30, 2016

Keg at The Font, Manchester. A black colour with a frothy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, biscuit, some roasted malts, slight toffee and subtle orange. Taste of dark chocolate, biscuit, some caramel, roasted malts, slight marmite, a little orange and subtle dark fruits. Medium bodied and a slick texture. A long, chocolatey, slight fruity bitterness in the finish. Personally not a BIPA but as a dark beer, it’s lovely. Rich, chocolatey and biscuity malts partnered well with dark fruits, a little citrus too. Decent. MonsterMagnet (1536) - NETHERLANDS - APR 5, 2016
Bottle from trade with minutemat, cheers Mat! Pours black with a good tan head. Chocolate and roast in the aroma, along with pine and citrus (wait, am I just jotting down the commerical deScription here?). Taste follows with light bread and dark berry notes. Light to moderate sweet and moderate bitter, medium body, creamy, with soft carbonation. Lingering dry chocolate and pine finish. Well balanced, well done.
