Cask (handpump) @ NWAF 2012, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.

Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120119]

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear dark brown beer. Residual pale tan head. Smooth palate, very low carbonation. A little bit of dark malt. Mild mild piney hops. Trace of red berry. Finishes neutral. Inoffensive but seems a bit tired.

Deep black in colour, looks like a porter or stout, taste is creamy and reminded me of Baileys, slight hop taste in there too

Aromas of caramel and biscuit. Dark copper with beige head. Tastes of chocolate and a touch of cherry.

Cask at the Brewery Tap, Leeds. Dark red with a coffee crema and not much aroma. Pine and citrus hop palate, plus notes of coffee and old wine. Quite smooth for a black IPA.

Half pint, hand pulled at a London Wetherspoons pub: Oct 2011. Advertised as a Black IPA, it looks and tasted like a stout to me, but without any body thickness. The nose was hopped toffee apple (Cascade hops used), with some roasted malts within the smells also. The taste a strange mix of bittering citrusy hops and dry roasted malty biscuits. Couldn’t get into it, just didn’t sit right on my palate. Try it by all means, but expect the flavours to be all over the place.

Cask at HW. Black with no head. Aroma is slightly fruity, quite weak, nice bit not a huge mount going on. Taste has slight fruit, hint of coffee, hint of chocolate, again quite weak.  Thin and flat. Lacks punch, could do with being ramped up considerably.

Winchester Beer Festival. Initially the aromas suggested a mild: quite smoky and dark, however in taste this had the bittterness and alcoholic tang of an IPA. Interesting and very drinkable.

Cask at Cask pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A dark ruby/black coloured pour with a thin off white head on top. Roasty, malty aroma. Tastes roasty, malty, hoppy, fruity. Rather thin but alright.

Cask at the NWAF, Manchester. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Sweet nose. Toffee apple aroma. Sweet spicy flavours (cinnamon, coriander). Spicy finish
