There are no bears on Salt Spring... Matadors? Maybe. Allow us to present our Salt Spring take on the classic ’ESB’ style. Featuring an aromatic charge of whole-cone hops, championed by dashingly sauve organic malts, this balanced and delicious beer is excellent on its own, or paired with classic pub fare.

Had this on draft at the Fort Street Cafe, where it was named simply "ESB". I didn’t care for it at all, sad to say. It had all the characteristics of the ESB but was sour and had a very powdery feel to it. Extremely bland. Made me pucker, which I never do with IPAs. Hard to finish. I’ve had lots of beers there and don’t think it was dirty lines or anything, just a subpar beer. Sorry.

On tap at VCBW Festival 2016, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma and flavour bring out English malts, bready notes and light diacetyl. Pretty forgettable but not too messed up. Meh.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours somewhat dark with a nice frothy head. Aromas of mild hops and rich malts. Mildly bitter with plenty of malt. I like this one a lot.

I liked this, others dont, oh well. Pours copper, good head, floral sweet bubblegum aroma? Taste is bitter hoppy malty tasty stuff. I like.

Lagerboy (2206) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 5, 2014
Bomber, as: Saltspring Extra Special Bitter. Clear light orange copper, smaller foamy off-white head fades to a ring. mild aroma of caramel and earthy grassy hop. Taste is lightly bitter, barely sweet pale malt, caramel takes over, floral herbal hoppiness, a bit dirty. Average carbonation, lighter than medium bodied, lightly hopped. Sessional boring bland British influence. LBW (Lagerboys be Wary)

Couleur de cuivre avec une petite mousse blanche. L’arôme d’houblon avec un goût pareille. L’après goût est long et de houblon. C’est une bonne bière pour une journée chaud, mais il manque de la complexité.

RumRunner101 (918) - Alberta, CANADA - SEP 28, 2012
Aroma is orange, grapefruit, bread/biscuit. The flavour is all up front - some citrus and piney hops, bready malt backing and then it’s just bland with some bitterness. No finish. Uhhh lots its missing.

Gerbeer (3758) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 17, 2012
UPDATED: APR 18, 2012 650 ml bottle. Pours a copper/orange with light head. Hoppy to the nose with some malt aromas. Roasted malts, some toffee and orange flavours with a soft finish. Light for an ESB but well balanced.
