Absolutely terrific. There’s something really unusual going on here in the flavor profile, and it’s kind of hard to describe. Moderate thickness for a dunkel. Pretty sweet. Moderate fizz. A weird hoppy flavor - sort of herbal. I love this one. sylphlv (3) - LATVIA - AUG 6, 2013 does not count
Bought in a 0.5l bottle.
A sweetened beer, that tasted a lot like rye bread and caramel.
For beer that’s sold on shelf, it’s near perfect!

From old tasting notes. Labeled as Crystal Diplomat Dark Beer. Bright reddish brown liquid topped by a bubbly tan head. Smoky roasted malt nose. Sweet burnt caramel malt flavor with a touch of buttery character. Nice dry hop finish provides a pleasant balance. An excellent dark lager. Not bad, but not great. A schwarzbier with more caramel than most. PorterPounder (7894) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 18, 2002
Nice, sweet, malty aroma upon pouring. Head is abundant and dark cream colored with some lacing. Appearance is like strong tea. Flavor is reminicent of a dopplebock - very malty with some sweet caramel-like undertones. Holds up well throughout the whole pint. Good find at a neighborhood liquor store.

500ml bottle 4.7%. Clear dark amber body, small latte head, good retention. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, herbs and flowers, light caramel and a touch of smoke. Taste of caramel, roasted malt, rye bread, a touch of herbs. Light body. SchlossyMcSaus (75) - San Marcos, California, USA - APR 21, 2002
Assumed it was a pils, being Chzec and all. Head formed nicely, smelled bready, and then slightly cheesey. It is a dark red/brown, but I wouldn’t call it a ’Schwartz’ by appearance. Taste is slightly sweet and bitter at the same time, the cheese like quality not sticking around. Seems almost like tea. Head stays on through the better portion of the pint.
