COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams American Kriek: The intense black cherry character in this beer comes from Balaton cherries, which were discovered in Hungary and are now grown in Michigan. These special cherries are prized for their depth of flavor. The tartness from the cherries is balanced by a rich, malty character with toasted oak notes added from the barrel aging.

Cloudy, ruby red color. Good start to the head but it settles to a half covered film of minute bubbles. Thus, no real lace, just some spots. Smells like a cross between a Sweettart sourness and a childrens aspirin. Rather appealing, but certainly not conventional. Harsher attack of dry sourness--right up front on the tongue. The alcohol is also up front and more powerful than anticipated. The cherry is very sour but quite muted. Theres a surprisingly sweet finish with a very quick finish and nearly no aftertaste. Good body. Overall, this is an unusual beer that is worth trying just to experience the unusual flavors.

BeerViking (4393) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2016
75cl bottle at home, aged a year, pours a deep red-brown with a thin fine head. Nose is tart old cherries and cherry stones, with very faint hints of vanilla and cocoa. Palate is lightly oaky and cherryish, yet far drier than the average kriek. Woody and faintly herbal bitterness, turning slightly grapefruit bitter in the finish to complement an emerging dry-sweet cherry aftertaste. Excellent!

A dark browny red with a nice head. Aroma is sour cherries. A sour taste with a hint of belgian yeast that gives way to sweet cherries. This is a big strong beer.
