COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams New World Tripel: Pale gold in color, this ale is big, flavorful and complex. A special Belgian yeast strain adds tropical fruit and spice notes to the crisp dry ale, while Saaz hops add a subtle herbal note.

Tap - very big thick head, medium gold color, Belgian yeast spice/coriander aroma and flavor - not bad by any means, but did expect it to be a little better

Clear golden color with a thick, snowy head. The nose and palate are consistently big with cloves, bananas and tropical fruit. Full bodied Tripel with a lively carbonated mouthfeel. Some alcoholic heat shows on the long finish.

Aroma is dominated by fruits, cloves and strong pineapple notes. Shiny copper in color with a massive white foam top. Well carbonated with flavors of hops, herb, butter, massive citrus and some spices. Nice complexity with a great balance and a big boozey finish. Overall, very well done and full-flavored with a pleasant herby hop. Strong spice and alcohol on the finish. Id give this an A rating.

THOUGHTS: The funk and sourness were very subdued in this one compared to the 13th Hour. Almost Christmasy, somehow. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured an ever so slightly hazy, light to medium golden with tons of beautiful carbonation and a small to average, creamy, off-white head that kept a fairly thick sheet and left fair lacing. The aroma had light bread; light herbal hops; floral hops at the end; moderate to heavy doughy and spicy yeast; wood; clove; lots of spices; and lots of fruit. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet, slightly sour and slightly acidic; while the finish was light to moderately sweet, moderately sour and moderate to heavily acidic. The medium body was dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry, lightly alcoholic and moderately astringent finish.

The beer pours a golden color with a large white head. The aroma has a lot of pineapple and tropical fruit notes, as well as some alcohol, white pepper and Belgian yeast. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of pepper and fruit notes, as well as some chewy biscuit malt. The alcohol is also quite noticeable, which is not a surprise for a beer that is 10 percent. There is also a little bit of oak and vanilla character hidden in the background. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Aroma: Citrus fruits with hints of spice--clove, perhaps?--and honey. There are some herbal hop notes at the edges, but theyre very faint. Appearance: Clear pale gold with a thick, rich head that leaves lots of lacing. Taste: Light sourness, almost tartness, immediately balanced by a medium sweetness. The two play off each other well, and fade to a spicy bitterness in the finish. Palate: Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation, long spicy finish. Overall: Its a very yummy beer with lots of tropical flavors--citrus fruits (pineapple, maybe?), spices, etc. Its well balanced, too, and the alcohol isnt so apparent that it becomes obnoxious. Id drink this again.

Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - SEP 12, 2012
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate clove, banana, bubblegum, light vanilla, and faint oak. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a three finger orange tinged off-white head that lasts a minute or so before it fades to a thin film. There is some spotty lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with light-moderate banana, candi sugar, and a touch of apple. The finish has light-moderate clove and light vanilla. Its medium bodied with lively (but not prickly) carbonation. Overall, this is the beer from the Barrel Collection that I wanted to try the least. However, in my opinion, its the best of the bunch.

Bottle. Pours with a clear orange to golden hued body with a foamy, medium sized white head with good retention. Aromas are of tropical fruit, dry and herbaceous hop character. Light caramel, light isoamyl acetate, pear, vanillin and mild phenol. Flavors are dry and lightly tannic, some cotton candy like caramelization flavors, medium-low vanillin, tropical fruit, saw dust, mild ester. Light corked flavor. Very dry finish. Mild phenolics. Very lively carbonation, bone dry and nicely warming.
