COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red: This unique brew defies traditional beer style definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong salty cheeses.

Ruby Red pour with good head. Smells like a Flemish Red. Taste of wood tannins and fruit. Nice palate with good finish.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2014 Pours deep copper red with foamy head that thins out pretty quickly. Vanilla and cherry on the nose, slightly candyish. Tart cherry and vanilla hit you right away. Some oakiness on the front. Very reminiscent of a Flemish red. Like others have commented, a unique beer experience in a good way.

Now that is a distinctive bottle! Corked and caged. Tart fruity nose, raspberry and cherry on oak with a touch of spice and bare-minimum (i.e., imagined) funk. Deep dark blood red pushing to brown with a tan-light brown head. Tart taste with a hint of soft lactic but more acetic. Crisp medium-full body with plenty of carbonation, very minimal bitterness and a spongy wood character into the aftertaste. Cherry kicks razz to the curb but theres a rich underlying maltiness, too, with light black pepper. Balanced and tasty wine substitute, has some heft and had way more alcohol than Im used to for this style, but incredibly, no sign of it here! Wonderful to have Sammy making this, impressed, missing a shade or two of the depth possible in this style (which would net it a 4.5+ for me) but still a very worthy experience.

Malty aroma has a tart fruity overtone and a hint of horehound. Pours a clear, dark mahogany with a thick wheat head. Malty flavor has woody and tart fruity notes, giving it an almost wine-like nature. Smooth texture has good fizz and rather wine-like body, leaving a tart and woody finish. Distinctive, enjoyable, tasty.

pours a deep red, with creamy off white head. Slight sour note, deep flavors or earthy sour, rose petal, oak and malt. Quite nice, especially for $9

This is a great example of a nice beer with a slight tart flavor. It's mildly thin but lots of character. Appreciate the beer a lot ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is a bit meaty with sour fruit, caramel malt, yeast, and spice. The appearance is amber with a small head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall this is decent.

Funky-shaped 25oz bottle from Sams Quik Shop for $9.99. Not bad for something like this. Its more-or-less a Flanders Red, but a little less in the cherry notes and the fruit notes are a bit more generic. It has some tart qualities, but ultimately malty and a bit sweet. Some vanilla and oak notes, of course. Pours reddish orange, fairly dark with a yellowish beige head. A solid experiment.

Shared 750 ml bottle. Pours a deep red with an off white head. Light dark fruit nose with a bit of acidity. Med body with light acetobacter (pleasant), deep dark fruit tones and light oak. Excellent finish with tart cherries, raisins, apples, red grapes and oak. Would definitely buy again.
