COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Stony Brook Red: This unique brew defies traditional beer style definition. The rich, malty brew combines notes of tart fruit from the yeast with a toasty oak character from the barrel aging. The long dry finish is almost wine-like. This is a beer that is satisfying on its own and also pairs well with many foods such as braised or roasted meats, beef stews and strong salty cheeses.

Bomber. Poured a deep amber with a red tint. Thin tan head. Aroma of sour cherries, earth, faint malt. Flavor was lots of sour cherries, earthy yeast, some oak, a touch of biscuity malt. Quite vinous. Moderately sour, mild to moderately sweet, low bitterness. Medium mouthfeel; soft carbonation. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer; its a real sour ale. Good for Sam Adams.

Bottle as shown. Pour a cloudy amber and ruby hue with thin beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is earthy malt and fruit. Medium mouthfeel with a tangy fruit malt and tart with oak and nice lingering dry finish. A good sour ale.

Very beautiful reddish brown color with white head. Not much on the nose. Taste is that of malt, wine and very faint oak. Mouthfeel is medium with some carbonation. Decent overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours brownish-red. A tad of cherry medicine aroma. Medium bodied. Decent drinkability. It seems to be an understated balanced out Flanders Red. Very woody in the finish. Not complex and not exceptionally interesting. Bottle found in a Maine bottle shop.

750 ml bottle C&C. Pours a dark red-brown color with a small beige head that fades to a fine ring around the glass. The aroma is tart with cherries, currants, tannin and oak. The taste resembles the nose, lots of tart cherries, berries, oak, black walnuts and some port wine. The malt base is fairly neutral with a bit of dry biscuit which lends a nice touch that accentuates the berries and oak quite well. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry with lingering sour cherries. Overall: I loved it, not nearly as sour as I would have preferred, but there is no doubt about its sour intentions and they are nicely balanced and make this quite approachable. Perhaps the best San Adams Ive sampled. Compares to the Rodenbach reds.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with thick off white head. Aroma of sour cherries, oak, and light vinegar. Flavor is tart and sour. Good mouthfeel. More fruity than sour but pretty good. Surprised at 9%. Drinks lighter.

Wow I am loving this. A nice sour flavor that isnt too sweet. A bit of stickiness to this that is nice. I would buy this again in a second. The best Sam Adams in a while.

Like many people out there, Ive been on a bit of a sour kick lately. Most that Ive tasted have been really solid and I was anxiously awaiting tasting this offering from Sam Adams. Surprisingly, this just really missed the mark for me. The weight and texture of the beer just seemed to be off. The tart fruits were present but seemed to not pop. Muted and lackluster. I like Flemish beers but this is just not a great example from my point of view. Low marks. The bottles in this series are awesome though.

(750ml bottle) cloudy brown-ruby, lasting light tan head of fine bubbles. Nose of oak, cranberry, light vinous, caramel, red grapes, other dark dried fruit, lightly tannic. Taste of lightly toasted oak, cranberry, wet wood, very drinkable and pretty good!
