COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This was labeled Sample A for Sam Adams’ 2010 Beer Lover’s Choice Longshot competition.
Sample A, a Belgian-style IPA, is an incredibly complex beer that begins with the fruity, sweet, slightly tart and spicy characteristics of Belgian ale yeast. The blend of malts, including a traditional slow-roasted Czech variety, adds a crisp, slightly roasty note. This is complemented by a combination of German and American hops, which add complex notes of eucalyptus, pine and citrus. The beer finishes with the distinct hop bitterness expected from an IPA, immediately demanding a second sip.

Tasted at the Music City Brewers Festival. An interesting one for sure. Tart and spicy, smells of nobel hops and Belgian Yeast. Some banana flavor in there too. I have never tasted anything like this one before.

Sample at brewery. Part of the 2010 Challenge. Had to choose between this and the American Rye Ale. Light amber with average off-white head. Aroma of yeast and floral hops. Tastes refreshing and hoppy.

12oz bottle of sample A from the upcoming 2010 Beer Lover’s Challenge. Clear gold/amber pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, malt, lemongrass and grassy hops. Banana flavor up front, followed quickly by pepper, malt and grassy hop with a peppery finish.

durhambeer (2500) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUL 16, 2010
Sampled at Sam’s in Durham. Pours slightly hazy bright orange with generous white head. Nose is spicy and fruity hops. Not a lot of yeast or "Belgian" characteristics, but it’s nice and fresh. Similar taste. Solid.

2010 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!! - Pours clear orange with a small off white head...aroma is yeasty and hoppy, lt fruit, lt spice, doughy and floral...flavour is perhaps slightly less than the sum of its parts, it has a burnt plastic bitterness and crystal malt sweetness...aside from those two detractors, it was drinkable and a pretty middle of the road Belgian IPA...

sample from longshot tasting- The aroma is sweet cinnamon and yeast, the taste is very Belgium with a mild hop bite, full bodied, a very tasty beer. This is what I voted for in the competition for the 2011 Longshot beer.

poisoneddwarf (2620) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - JUN 10, 2010
Sample from 12 oz bottle. Aroma is cinnamon, Belgian yeast, awesome. Pours golden with a medium head and nice lace. Taste is spicy--nutmeg and coriander definitely. Sweet with an aftertaste of bitterness. Highly carbonated. Oily. Very good. This is what I voted for in the Beer Lover’s Choice Longshot 2010 competition. I hope it wins!
