Bottle poured into a Sam Adams pint glass.
Appearance is almost solid black with a very slight ruby when held up to light. Tan head is solid and lacing is good.
Smells strongly of coffee along with some chocolate Almost like a mocha. Delicious.
The taste is very coffee forward along with a subtle chocolate. There is some bitterness in the finish I’m going to assume from the hops although there is no hop taste. This is also a fairly sweet beer though not to the point of being cloying.
I really enjoy this beer. I am a fan of coffee stouts and while the mouthfeel might be a tad bit thin here, the abv is lower than most other coffee stouts so it’s to be expected. I will definitely be drinking a lot of these this winter. cbfobes (2883) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Poured from 12oz bottle, pours black with a thick off white head and lacing, aroma is of fresh ground coffee with a hint of chocolate, the flavor has a bitter coffee front end with a chocolate finish, really not that bad at all. PorterPounder (7970) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Tallahassee, Fl - Earth Fare - 12 oz bottle - part of their Winter variety pak. Tar-black appearance, nice sticky mocha colored head. Earthy aroma with some black coffee, potting soil and dark chocolate. Flavor is bold with plenty of bakers chocolate, espresso and roasted notes. Nice, chalky mouthfeel. Very solid stout. Brown/black with a dense inch of camel-colored head. Aroma is rich coffee, and taste is even more-so, which transitions almost seamlessly into a roasty malt finish, $2/12oz TheBeerGod (6224) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Bottle. Pitch black with a short, frothy brown head. Strong aroma of coffee and roasted malt in the nose along with dark chocolate covered coffee beans. Taste is oily coffee beans, dark chocolate, roasted malt, burnt caramel and bitter coffee. Body is medium with a soft, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more dark chocolate, bitter coffee, roasted malt and burnt caramel.

Yummy! I look forward to the Sam Adams Winter Seasonals collection every year and this is one which really surprised me when I first tried it. It pours with a fairly dark color and a rust colored head. The coffee taste hits you almost right away. As I am not a coffee person unless it is good coffee, let me tell you, this tastes like good coffee. An excellent desert beer and arguably my favorite Sam Adams. smaynard6000 (1167) - Apopka, Florida, USA - NOV 4, 2011
