COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Poured nice and black. Kind of coffee flavoured - overall not a bad beer but it seemed to lack either texture or feel that I like in a darker beer. Perhaps if I let it sit it might develop some complexity - as it is the flavors seemd not to mingle.

Habersham Beverage Warehouse - Savannah, Ga. Coffee colored pour with a light mocha head. Aroma has some chocolate and bittersweet coffee - quite nice. Flavor has bit of chicory, bittersweet chocolate and a wee bit of creamy caramel. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Excellent for a lager. Goes down smoothly.

Deep brown-black clear liquid wiht a thin tan head. Nose is of a dry roasted malty flavor. Almost reminiscent of a good beer batter. Taste is a light but very pleasing roasted flavor. Light texture, fluid and clean. Aftertaste is pleasant and lightly roasty grain. A very nice beer.

Like hot cocoa with alcohol added! VERY chocolaty! Nice deep color. Thick, but smooth. Impressive.

Bottle, best before JUL 05 drank APR 05: Deep chestnut, with a nice off-white small-bubbled head, light sweet grasses in the aroma, mild carbonation, dry ending, one of the better beers that I’ve had from Sam Adams.

Black beer with small tan head. Roasty aroma. Chocolate and coffee present. Very flavorful beer. Give this one a try.

Ummm, black color... not much head, aroma is sweet with cocoa. Flavor starts out quite sweet, mouthfeel becomes noticibly dry, some chocolate, smoke and bitterness comes on to finish. Strange beer, not bad though - I think it would make a good barbeque sauce.

ABUSEDGOAT (2784) - California, USA - APR 5, 2005
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2008 Not bad for Sam Adams. Reddish brown, some lacing and retention. Chocolate, caramel, moderate to low hops, light coffee and roast. Medium to light body. Not a schwarz.

Very enjoyable beer. Pours a very dark almost black body. Looks almost like a Guinness draught with a thick creamy, light tan head that lasted forever with good lacing. Smokey, nicely roasted coffee/chocolate aroma. A unique, tasty flavor. Roasted malts. Smooth, but a slightly thin finish. Good beer.
