COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his fathers attic. Samuel Adams Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Pretty average. A little lighter in color than one might expected. Its good for S. Adams, I guess... Im never really TOO impressed. Malty and I do get a little bit of spices. Id buy again (at dinner this time). Maybe its better than the lager, it didnt really stand out in my memory either.

12oz bbNov2017, BL sampler 2017-1. - Crystal clear auburn-amber pour, dense toothpaste white pillow. Sweet near-lager aroma, honeypops and damp maple syrup on pancakes, crackling hay. Smooth, filtered yet ale-round. Hefty walnut bitters of both astringently toasted malts and UK hops. Stock ale sounds like lagered ale, aka a smooth indeed Boston Klsch of sorts. Or an inverted East Coast steam beer?

Bottle. Pours lightly cloudy amber. Aroma is mostly malty, but also clearly an amber, a bit of candy. Body is medium with a low carbonation without getting flat or boring. Palate is rather short. Works well.

I had it from the bottle. The taste is caramel, chocolate, and coffee. This is very smooth. Its a nice balance of roastiness and sweetness.

12 oz bottle dated 2/2011 served in pint glass. (From 2011 notes). Appearance: a clear, medium amber body capped with 1 finger of bone head. Good lacing. A small amount of sediment (added). Smell: Toasted and sweet caramel-scented malts with light hops. Taste: Toasted maltiness dominates first, but then the hops with a mild citrusy bitterness come forward in the finish. Mouthfeel: Light-medium body; crisp; medium carbonation. A nice step up from other widely available macro-brews, but not as good IMO as such Sam Adams products as the Noble Pils. Very good for style.

355 ml bottle. Clear, deep golden amber, medium beige head, lively carbonation. Aroma is sweet, bready and malty. Mouthfeel is fizzy, thin and dry at the end. Taste is biscuity, bready and caramelly, some toffee notes. Nice Amber Ale, a bit too carbonated to be top notch.
