COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams Boston Lager is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the worlds oldest hops growing area. Among the worlds most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2005 This is usually the best of the lot at beer-unfriendly restaurants. Pours Golden, with an impressive fizzy head. The hops carry from the beginning to the end, with a slightly acidic kick on the tongue. The best attribute of this beer is how creamy & frothy it is. I thoroughly disagree with those that consider this beer watery. That is a standard lager line - just doesnt apply to Sams. This is also one of the few lagers that is palatable when warm.

This is a decent lager, but I find that their specialty brews are far better than this. I only drink this on tap, when theres nothing better offered.

On tap....Pours with a large, foamy white head. The color is a light amber in which you can see the amount of carbination. Its aroma is somewhat hoppy with a hint of spice. It tastes more spicy than hoppy. Overall for a somewhat mass produced lager, it really isnt that bad

Allright I admit it I drink this all the time, though I never thought to rate it. And it was actually better than I thought it was going to be. Pours with a very large head that settles after awhile, clear light orange coloring. Almost no aroma with a hint of hops. Taste is slightly watery with some sweetness (that was a surprise) and some spice.

Amber in color pour. Small white head, not bad. Taste is less hoppy than aroma, but I have had fresher bottles with more hop presence. Slight malt character, a little metallic. Just ok.

Bottle: Dark brown-orange, sweet and fruity aroma. Taste is bitter sweet and complex; overall a good brew.

Tastes like home. But seriously, this is just a good beer. Great with a steak. Nothing special about it really, just tastes right and its better than half the beer at the supermarket.

Honey coloured body with a medium sized white head. Metallic hops on the nose and in the taste, good lacing, lemon sweet and a medium body.

A darn good effort, although I have sampled some with a slightly metallic taste to it. May be a bit hoppy for some, but not overwhelmingly so. Cook a steak on the bar-b and enjoy.

Bottle from Safeway, Shirley, West Midlands. A toasty, rosy lager colour. Reasonable bubbly head, with some pristine white lacing. Very sweet and malty beer. Light, crispy, but not too much depth. Sharp in the finish and slightly metallic. This is OK, but lacking smoothness.
