Samuel Adams Boston Lager is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the worlds oldest hops growing area. Among the worlds most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

When Im at a bar that only serves macros, I always take a Sams. In my macro days it was an over the top brew.

This has never been a beer Ive fancied. And Ive tried it so many times to see if I can figure out why. While it is all so obviously heads above the swill, it comes across as pedestrian to me. Maybe someone will be able to lead me to find and say what element there is that I dont like.

An amber beer wich strikes a good balance between sweet malt and herbal hops. Its nothing remarkable, but it would make a great starting point for people trying to get into "good beer", as its a step up from most macros.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass; Amber hue almost copper in appearance. 1/2 finger head that quickly dissapates after pouring. Stringy lace that also dissapates rather quickly. Not much aroma that is hoppy and a hint of orange. Tastes of honey, rye bread, and orange with a moderate amount of hops and malt. Coats the tongue but is dry towards the end I like the palate of this beer for this particular style of beer. One of the better Lagers Ive had. One of the better lagers around and definately my favorite American lager.

(Tapped) Light amber color with a small head. Quite hoppy, even spicy, sweetish aroma. Very hoppy (aromatic) and flowery flavor. Bitter, crisp and slicky, light to medium-bodied palate with quite low carbonation. A very nicely and heavily hopped, refreshing and crisp summer brew.

Amber color, white head. Hop flavor and aroma that are just slightly assertive over the clean malt character. Light-medium light body A good choice when the other options are a typical american macro or a clear mexican bottle or a green imported bottle.

Bottle - A fairly standard offering from Sam Adams. Consistent over time. Malty, but with enough hops to make it interesting. An easy drinking beer and one that I will drink again.
