Samuel Adams Boston Lager is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the worlds oldest hops growing area. Among the worlds most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Clear lighter amber/dark honey color with medium/ thick-ish slight off white foam. Aromas are very much of traditional european hops, sweet, light, grassy, floral, honey and fresh. Palate, medium body with smooth texture leaving hop tea finish. Sweet is definatly on the sweet side, but from hops. Very much reminds of german bitering hops used to make tea. Other than that it is quite fresh, floral and grassy. Overall, nice, strange to see american beer with very so european taste to it. Easy going, sweet and full. Quite enjoyable although did expect more sweet caramel and light malt flavours.

Pours clear amber with fast-faded clingy white top that settles to a ring. Aroma is of a spicy hop yielding to sweet bready malt. Flavor is much the same as the nose. While Im not a hug fan of the hop load, it is excellently balance and appropriate for the style. Finishes a bit dry and slightly bitter.

Amber medium-bodied lager, with a light grassy hop aroma. Good malty and lightly hoppy flavour, with light sweetness and medium bitterness. Tasty bitter hop finish. Overall, a surprisingly good lager, tending towards bitterness but still balanced. The aroma is not too exciting, however.

Aroma is corn, sweet malt, metallic, simply put, it smells like a lager. Appearance is amber, light light beige head, clear. Taste is corn, metallic, sweet, lots of flavor but still a lager. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, crisp light carbonation, metallic corn aftertaste. Overall, this is about what I expected from it.

0.33 l bottle from K-Citymarket Lohja. Clear amber colour. Aroma is sweetish like caramel. Taste is at first also caramel then bitter hops. Later on caramels turn into malts. Quite OK, its just not my favourite beer style.

can on airplane I hadnt drunk this in a long time, so I decided to try again to put it here on Ratebeer. Better than I expected from an American lager, but well behind world class quality. Nice darker color than I remembered, heavy initial foaming (from a can is not the best measure, Im sure). Inoffensive without being inspiring. Better than most American mass market brews.

clear amber color; aroma is light floral hops and bready malt with hints of caramel and citrus; medium bodied bready malt with light caramel notes and grassy hop notes; fairly well balanced; overall a decent lager; one of the better beers available at bars that dont have good beers

Pours a honey-orange body with a short head. Aroma of caramel, yeast, malts and a bit of bread. Taste of caramel, malts with notes of bread and grapefruit. Bitterness is mild, but noticable and aftertaste of pine. Medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation.
