UPDATED: APR 5, 2005 Pours a copper color with quite a bit of carbonation. Has a hoppy, citrusy aroma. Flavor was hoppy and bitter, and just didn’t do it for me. As it warmed, the characteristics became much less appealing. VA Homebrewer (525) - Portsmouth, Virginia, USA - SEP 6, 2001
OK, after years of disliking this beer, I’m softening my stance after trying one the other night simply because it was the only beer other than BudMillerCoors the restaurant had. As far as widely available American lagers are concerned, this is the best. It has a great hop nose and slight maltiness to compliment its hop flavor and slight bitterness. Acceptable color and mouthfeel, no head retention and a pleasant taste. Not bad overall, but something about Sam Adams’ beers (still) literally makes me sick to my stomach if I drink more than one of them in an evening. Have to respect their ability to compete with the Big 3 and retain relatively high quality. JoeKnox (100) - Georgia, USA - MAY 2, 2001
A fair lager with a rather unpleasant aftertaste... duff (5484) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 5, 2002
Re-rate:a good beer to have when you can’t be bothered to think about what you’re drinking, coz it actually surprises you when you are in these types of moods, quite thin, yet flavourful, uninspiring, yet drinkable. different for a lager, OK. fraternie (1011) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 12, 2001
Not all it is cracked up to be. Smooth at first but a lingering aftertaste reminiscent of a dishwasher.

Much better on tap than out of a bottle. Better than most American beers, but I prefer their Boston Ale. MOboy (504) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - NOV 2, 2001
I used to like this beer, but the taste gets real old, real quick for some reason now. Maybe I used to drink it too much. Anyway, this is a decent brew considering it is a pretty mass produced beer. IL IPA Lover99 (69) - Monroe City, Missouri, USA - NOV 12, 2001
good beer for a night out; plenty of flavor for the bar Norton (333) - Southside, Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 28, 2001
A good ’gateway’ beer I first started drinking in ’92 or so... a lot of other ’microbrews’ have extremely similar tastes. Nice texture and gravity for such a (now) mass produced beer. A bit bloaty on the tummy but this is no doubt a nice beer. 40oz (181) - Newport Beach, California, USA - JAN 7, 2002
Hoppy aroma. Clean slightly malty, slightly bitter taste. This is a good lager that resembles an ale in taste.
