Pours dark with an aroma of chocolate and cherry. Tastes like its name sake but the palette is disappointing. Other than that its not half bad. thebos (35) - Eatonton, Georgia, USA - NOV 29, 2013
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 Great cherry scent and taste. mixes well with the chocolate tones. Small brown head fades quickly, very dark in color. Not able to see through it in a pint glass even when held up to the light. Absolutely delicious. Was expecting a little thicker mouth feel judging by color...... but does not subtract from how good it is. bropgh (31) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 23, 2014
Poured from bottle into snifter.
Appearance - Black/red depending on lighting. By that I mean if held to light the smallest bit of red comes through. Little to no head. Almost nonexistent after a minute or so.
Smell - Slight chocolate, but a more intense cherry nose. Reminded me of the cherry wheat but a bit more subtle.
Taste - Cherry upon entry but rounded with chocolate and malts. Interesting to say the least. Cherry aftertaste that again reminds me of Cherry Wheat. Not horrible, but after a while I can already tell this is a once and a while taster.
Mouthfeel - About average carbonation. Easy drinker and smooth going down.
Overall - Not too bad, just a bit too cherry for me. I was hoping for a more chocolate tasting beer, but overall this isn’t a bad sipper every once and a while. Well I have 3 more, they will go in time. realjb29 (27) - olean, New York, USA - DEC 21, 2013
pours dark and creamy with an srm of 40+. Dark blackish brown with creamy milky head. It smells like chocolate covered cherries with subtle coffee notes. definitely reminds me of Christmas. The taste is extremely sweet and malty. decent mouth feel. tasting notes very rich and bready. strong maraschino cherry and milk chocolate notes hit the palate upon initial sip. mid swallow a medicinal slightly astringent coffee flavor comes through with a finish of yeast, bread, that linger slightly on tongue after swallow. Moderate to low carbonation. A uniquely American adaption to the classic German bock style. The sweetness is over whelming which makes this a 6oz or less sipper for me. Overall, it was pleasant with good flavor complexity. micieli6000 (27) - New York, USA - FEB 21, 2012
Great looking beer but doesn’t have much a a palate which is disappointing. U get much more cherry flavor than chocolate. Still smooth to drink and not as heavy as u would think.

Comparted it side by side to a local brewery in the area called Triptych who just came out with their own (very limited supply) Cherry Chocolate. Really is no comparison. I was expecting more from a Sam Adams. I will pick up another grower now. Sorry Sam, you lose this taste test. keithmoon (14) - Kentucky, USA - DEC 24, 2011
Very smooth and drinkable...Slight hint of cherry with chocolate overtones...The color is dark and opaque with very little light through the glass when held up...Basically desert in a glass. I love it !!! I wish they had this in bottles instead of just draft so I could buy em up. Beerwarlock (13) - Trafford, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 22, 2014
If you like a glassful of chocolate covered cherries then this is the beer for you. Aroma was of chocolate covered cherries. The taste was much of the same. Very sweet. Not bad but couldn’t drink more than one or two without needing to have something with a little more hops to counter balance my palate. Thejay801 (12) - - NOV 11, 2013
Winter pack from costco. Can smell the chocolate and cherry. Great taste and not overwhelming. Leaves aftertaste of chocolate.

Loved this beer. You get a very bold cherry flavor at first taste and it slowly fades into a slightly semisweet chocolate note. Very tasty if you like cherry and chocolate. I love the fact it doesn’t shy away from the cherry, even though others thought it was too much.
