COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special release is brewed just for the holidays. For a new approach to a classic favorite, we added cherries to our traditional Chocolate Bock for a sweet, slightly tart note. Aged on a bed of dark cocoa nibs, the malty, chocolaty, and dark fruit flavors create a rich, complex beer perfect for winter. Cheers!

(draught at Whiskey Cake) clear deep ruby-brown, few ine tan bubbles lining the edges. Nose of artificial cherry, sweet Chocolate malt, taste of chocolate malt, artificial cherry, cream, raw grain mash. The linger leaves something to be desired, but it’s not terrible. Just ok.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 new rating this year 2013; much better smell. OLD: On tap at 1 for the road but here it was listed as cherry chocolate stout @ 7% so I’m not sure if this is the right place for this rating. Big black pour. Not much aroma but I do detect a hint of fruit or cherry in the background. Initially, this stuff has lots of cherry in there supported by a choco background. Goodly amount of co2 in there and it makes it more pleasant than i was expecting. Chocolate becomes more apparent as the session continues. Almost evolves to a soda kind of testure on the palate. You would never know this is more than 5%, hides the alky very well. Decent overall beer experience.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into a Sam glass. Mocha head crackles and recedes to nothing. Cherry lolipop aromas. Medium bodied with chocolate and cherry lolipop overload front to back. Leaves an odd, bitter aftertaste.

Bottle best before the coming March. Nose of glorious, unrestrained cherry juice with chocolate -- the immediate and irresistible association is to the over-sugared cherry-stuffed truffles found in cheap sampler boxes of chocolate usually exchanged around the holidays. And these are sweet maraschinos, skins and all, not the sour kind. Pours a deep brown-black which is a very dark ruby under light, plenty of carbonation and a short tan head. Taste is sweet cherry juice, but this one is unfortunately much less gustatory and much more medicinal. Tumbling malt complexity but not very deep, medium body and the carbonation has turned into a gentle fizz, and the expected wave of thorough chocolate is more like a disappointing dollop of tincture of cocoa nib. The base beer is Sammy’s generic earthy lager/bock, complete with pros and cons, but man, that cherry really grabs the limelight; others might be bothered ("too much! too much!") but I really get off on the strong ice cream associations and memories of long-forgotten girlfriends who did the damn thing with the cherry stems, even if they were duds where it counted.

bottle. Brown with small head. Both the cherry and chocolate are quite prominent within a malty base. Sweet and pleasant. Seems like a great beer to have around a fireplace or campfire.

Draft at mellow mushroom. Pours black with a thin khaki head though this might not be accurate since the beer was served in a refrigerated glass. Definite cherry notes on the nose but they’re more of the sticky sweet variety. Not getting much chocolate on the tongue but definitely more sweet cherry. Finishes clean. Not bad but hoping this was going to be better.

12 oz. Nearly opaque chocolate with a lasting topping of creamy foam. Pleasant and straightforward aroma of sweet dark cherries and a touch of dark chocolate. Taste opens with sweet and mildly tart cherry and dark berry. Semi-sweet dark chocolate fades in along with a faint trace of woody hop in the long aftertaste. Medium body is smooth and a bit too sweet, but the acidity of the cherries and chocolate provides some much-needed astringency. Definitely a dessert beer. A little less cherry sweetness would have been better.

Initial whiff is Dr. Pepper, cherry dies out in the flavor and gives way to the chocolate, with some cherry/Dr. Pepper in the background. Sweetness hides the alcohol content. Finish is dry and somewhat chalky. A bit sweeter than is the norm for a winter beer, but interesting nonetheless. Gets better with each sip.

Aurelius (5572) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 15, 2013
Love the aroma -- smells like chocolate covered cherries -- sweet, cocoa, cherry pop tart, tangy. Good label, Sam longneck. Very dark brown, clear - but you can’t see very far through it. Tastes like chococherries as well, sweet, lots of bittersweet cocoa. Slightly biscuity and roasty in the finish, aftertaste is like the flavor. Walmart.

Deep brown almost black with a khaki head. Nose is chocolate, cream, cherry, little sweet. Smooth palate, lots of chewy chocolate, light cherry, cream, vanilla in finish.
