#499. Thanks joel. Bottle, poured a clear, amber copper color, med light head. Aroma is very interesting; getting bacon, smoke, wood, cocoa, caramel. Med light sweetness, light bitter. Lite on carbonation. Medium body. Nice smoked flavor leads to malt body and slight hop. Glad I tried it. jsmerig (1720) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 16, 2012
Aroma strong with smoke and bacon. The beer pours a ruby red with an off-white head. The taste is very much like the aroma, smokey up front and sweet and malty. The alcohol comes through a bit at the end and the bacon lingers a bit on the tounge. beernovice39 (3269) - Idaho, USA - MAR 16, 2012
Bottle pours a clear red/copper with a thick tan head. Scent is smoked pork, dark sugar and toffee. Taste is smoke, caramel and sweet. bbbeer (905) - Massachusetts, USA - MAR 16, 2012
Deep red brown with small tan head. Aroma bacon-like smoke and a little caramel. Medium-full body with alcohol pretty hidden. Flavor is smoky but not unpleasantly so, strong background of malt and bread and mostly dry finish. Enjoyable. Juelze (1146) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 15, 2012
This one surprised me. Dark brown color with creamy off white head that fades quickly. Aroma of malt, smoke, and caramel sweetness. Taste is the same with the alcohol well hidden. Excellent.

Caramel malt and some smoke in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and malty, then finishes with some smoke that provides nice balance without being overpowering. Carbonation gives very creamy mouthfeel. One of the best beers I’ve had from Sam Adams in a long time. Strykzone (7800) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2012
Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. I brought it. Coppery hued with a light tan head that lasts nicely. Not a big aroma but it has smoke. I also taste smoke with meat and cinnamon. It is sweet and just a bit prickly. This is fairly hot. Not a bad beer at all. unclemattie (4406) - Georgia, USA - MAR 13, 2012
22oz Sam Adams bottle, Batch #1. Vintage 2012. Dark reddish-brown color, light tan head. Sweet smell of smoke. Aroma of smoked meat. Sweet malt has flavors of toffee and heavy caramel. Finishes with a hearty flavor of smoke and a touch of spice. (3273) sethbreaker (180) - New York, Greater London, USA - MAR 11, 2012
From the bottle. Whiffs of smoke and alcohol, Rich boozy sweetness with a good amount of smoke coming through, soft mouth feel, the booze out lingers the taste of smoke. Decent interpretation RSRIZZO (2034) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 10, 2012
22oz bottle poured into a Dimpled Mug at 42°. Color is a bright amber with good carbonation and a tight Soft looking head. Aroma is smoky with a light malt note. It has a medium body with a smooth, almost creamy mouth feel. Flavor is rich with caramel, malt and smoke. In the after taste a bit of hop spice and a mild bitterness show with a hint of the smoke hanging on. Overall its a very well done brew, evenly balanced with mellow flavor.
