Pours mahogany with a large off-white head. Smells smoky with lots of big malt characters, like caramel and coffee. Taste is smoked a first and then moves in the gigantic caramel and toffee notes with a hint of bitter underneath. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Samuel Adams Cinder Bock finishes with a light smoky feel and some solid sweetness. shaihulud (13) - Kentucky, USA - JUN 28, 2014
It is like if Satan made a beer out of the burned blood of a goat. When you drink it your third eye opens a little bit and smoke billows out your mouth as your mind bakes a tiny bit. You can blow smoke rings after every sip. WallStirctly (57) - - AUG 20, 2012
UPDATED: SEP 25, 2012 Best beer I?ve ever had. Full punishing taste that becomes smooth and hypnotic. Hints of caramel, chocolate, and a smokey essence. Starts strong and finishes beautifully. A piece of beer artistry. Kco (51) - USA - MAR 2, 2012
Nice medium dark color, with a thick creamy head that disapated to a nice lace. Aroma is malty with a hint of smoke. The smoke is stronger in the taste but not overly. Good malt and hop balance. Definitely worth trying.

THOUGHTS: Very nice. Doppelbocks are one of my favorite styles and definitely my favorite lager and this took it up a notch. Hid the alcohol well but I prefer the alcohol in a doppelbock to be noticeable. Probably my favorite from the Single Batch series so far. Slightly cloying by the end.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark, reddish amber with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was a little weak, but had moderate to heavy molasses and caramel; apple; cherry; smoke; toffee; barbecued meats; bacon and barbecue sauce. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and moderately smokey with a fairly long duration. There was caramel, molasses, toffee, smoke, bacon, barbecued meats. The medium body was sort of syrupy and then very dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a dry, smokey and ever so slightly alcoholic finish.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Batch #1. Pours a clear dark ruby/amber with about a finger of thick white head. Aroma is mostly smoke with some caramel, wood and dark fruits. Taste is light sweet. Caramel with smoke, wood, cherry and alcohol. Full bodied with a thick and sticky texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, great. Would be great to pair with some BBQ burgers. NeoHippie2 (1074) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - SEP 3, 2012
Pours a brown/amber with an off-white head. The smokiness is probably the first thing you notice about this one though. Smokey malts on the nose. Big smokey flavor too, almost like campfire ashes with some charred wood...but in a good way. Rich and long finish. Delicious. hopslammer (30) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - NOV 6, 2012
This is an interesting beer. The first "official" rauch styled beer for me. I made one myself, but it...well let’s move on. it smells and tastes the same, an unusual feat if you ask me. Very sweet, almost brown/maple sugary context. Very good though. The smoke flavor comes to me as..don’t laugh...hot dogs or ketchup (or catsup depending on your geographic preference). Apparently I like drinking hot dogs because I am loving this beer, and so can you for only 7.99$ (in Indiana). Drink long and prosper (aka get drunk if so inclined). pagvan229 (14) - panama city beach, Florida, USA - FEB 27, 2013
Caramel, chocolate, toast, sweet and smoky, bold rich flavors, alcohol at 9.4% which leave you feeling well after one. efecher (70) - Long Valley, New Jersey, USA - APR 11, 2012
this beer was particularly interesting, considering i’ve had it twice. you can definitely taste the smokiness, which is reminiscent of a campfire. it almost got me wanting to toast marshmallows or make smores to accompany this. the alcohol content was right, enough to get a slight buzz if you drink the whole bottle at once, but not enough to get you smashed. definitely enjoyed it
