Designated as 'Sample B', this coffee stout is the other offering for the 2008 Beer Lover's Choice Contest being run by Samuel Adams. Quite simply, this is being offered as "Ale with Coffee Beans", and nothing more to it.

scraff (2125) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - AUG 20, 2008
Bottle - Black, light tan creamy head. Soft coffee and caramelized dark chocolate aromas throughout. Sweet coffee and chocolate flavors ride just a hint of dry bitterness in the end. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. My vote goes to Sample B without a doubt. Bottle provided by Bottoms Up in Naples, FL.

Miver (615) - Silver Spring, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 20, 2008
Sampled at Sam Adams R&D Brewery in Boston. Poured black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee (sort of weak). Taste of roasted coffee with really not much body at all. Thin and pretty one dimensional. I thought the Blackberry Wit was better.

Eyedrinkale (3235) - Astoria, New York, USA - AUG 19, 2008
Bottle. Not much of a head and the coffee aroma and flavor has an artificial taste to it. Creamy mouthfeel but thats the only good thing I can say. Sucks.

Magjayran (1379) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - AUG 19, 2008
Dark oily black. A touch of light at the edge. Small brown head. Dark roast in the aroma. A bit of molasses to compliment the coffee when you sip. A pleasant smokey finish. Sweet.

Sampled at the Brewery tasting event. Simply put I can tell this is well put together but a sweeter bean would have suited my tastes a little better. Dark dark brown with a milk chocolate head that lingers forever. Very roasty nose with coffee and cocoa bitterness but little coffee aroma. Very roasty character and overpowering earthy strong coffee taste. Bitter and almost gritty from such an earthy bean. Offensive to me, glad to see others enjoyed it as did my fiancee and her father both are big coffee drinkers. I chose the Blackberry Witbier

Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, lightly tanned head. Good retention. Notes of caramel, toffee, coffee and chocolate make up the aroma. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lightly sweet... mostly chocolaty alongside lots of coffee flavor. Finishes dry. Bottle provided by Bottoms Up in Naples, FL!

LooseCannon (938) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - AUG 14, 2008
Sampled at Grape & Gourmet. Pours pitch black in color with brown head. Aroma sweet, roasted malt and coffee. Taste coffee and roasted malt with bitter finish.

Immy (1958) - Virginia Beach, USA - AUG 14, 2008
Sample at Grape & Gourmet. Clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Sweet smell of coffee, for sure, but little else. Body is really thin. Coffee flavors, a bit of roasty malt. Very one dimensional. Eh.

Was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. Sam Adams Rep was at the Winking Lizard last night giving out samples and ballots to vote. Very cool! Poured a nice dark brown color. Sweet smell of coffee and chocolate. Flavor was light, but good, chocolate, toast, and coffee. A very decent and drinkable stout. This one was definitely my pick of the two!
