A deep black stout with a thin dark moka head. A pleasant milk chocolate aroma with caramel and fruity notes. In mouth, light chocolate with bitter notes, musky, nice coffee in finish. Medium bodied. Sampled at Vermont Brewfest July 19 2008. slowrunner77 (12594) - Reno, Nevada, USA - DEC 9, 2014
This got outvoted in the national head to head though it won at the fest I had it at by a HUGE margin. This was a very well done coffee beer before coffee beers were as prevelant as they are now. Super smooth and well put together. hopscotch (11182) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 18, 2008
Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, lightly tanned head. Good retention. Notes of caramel, toffee, coffee and chocolate make up the aroma. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lightly sweet... mostly chocolaty alongside lots of coffee flavor. Finishes dry. Pours black with brownish head.
Aroma was filled with coffee, espresso.
Taste of good roasted coffee malts, a really ncie offering by Sam Adams, hoping this one makes it on the shelves.
Lots of coffee, but lacking something else to make it really stand out from the rest.

Courtesy of Sea Bass. Pours dark fizzy brown with thin quickly dissipating brown head. The aroma is mostly Folgers crystals or maybe roastier moving into burnt malts, black licorice and mild caramel in the background. The taste begins with coffee roastiness up front but feeling even and smooth. It moves toward roasted malts and some black licorice to midway. It ends dry with hints of malt and or coffee astringency. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - AUG 26, 2008
Sample B bottle. Pours a deep black with a quickly disapating khaki head. Nice roasted coffe aroma. Body looks like its going to be to light. It is. Decent coffee flavor but not enough body IMO. Good try but needs some creaminess & body egajdzis (6709) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2008
[Draft @ Sam Adams R&D Brewery] Poured a dark brown / black color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate, and a bit of rauch. Taste of coffee, light roasted notes, some vanilla bean, and chocolate as well. Thin mouthfeel. Beerman6686 (6607) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 28, 2008
Poured an almost black color with a tan head. Aroma was of basically all coffe, not much more. Flavor was much the same, hardly any complexities, just watery coffee. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 19, 2008
Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of coffee, chocolate, bitter malt. Tastes peppery and of coffee with some nice roasted malt character.
