Had while visiting the Boston Brewery. The experience and the beer where great. It should have won over the Blackberry Whitbier! DragonStout (1416) - Groveport, Ohio, USA - SEP 12, 2008
Sampled at the Winking Lizard in Columbus. This was the 2nd offering in the national voting taste test to see which beer Sam Adams will brew next.By far this beer is delicious.Poured black with a khaki head. The nose was of fresh brewed coffee with lots of roasted coffee flavor. The bitterness was mild as it finished. a good moderately smooth and creamy substantial mouthfeel. Nice flavors of coffee with a pleasant mocha taste right at the finish. good alcohol kick without intruding in the flavor. light dark fruit flavor off in the backround just wafting in for a moment. just the lightest touch of acrid seems to me to be the definition of roasted as hardly experienced before. not in any way like a Sammy i have ever had before. a winner! hogan873 (451) - Joliet, Illinois, USA - DEC 4, 2011
Wow. Pitch black body with a thick brown head. Wonderfully inviting aroma of coffee and cream. Medium mouthfeel...very smooth. The taste matches the aroma. Smooth and sweet like a sweetened iced coffee. There’s an appropriate bite at the end. Bravo. slowrunner77 (12051) - Reno, Nevada, USA - DEC 9, 2014
This got outvoted in the national head to head though it won at the fest I had it at by a HUGE margin. This was a very well done coffee beer before coffee beers were as prevelant as they are now. Super smooth and well put together.

Bottle poured in mug. Dark color with little creamy head, aroma are roast malt, coffee, nuts, hints of chocolate, very nice. Taste is well balanced coffee flavor mostly, grains with low bitterness... very drinkable, cant even feel the booze, i liked it Duhast500 (414) - Cumberland, Rhode Island, USA - AUG 10, 2009
I first have to preface this with the fact that I am not a coffee drinker and really not a fan of coffee.
I sampled this at the Octoberfest gathering in September.
The appearance is a dark black. Not very foamy with a browish small head.
The smell was quite strong, hints of roasted coffee and toast. Has almost a charcoal flavor to it.
The taste was a lot of the same flavors. Strong coffee flavor, seemed to be a bit off.
Overall I was taken aback by how strong the coffee flavor was. It is a little overpowering and does not leave much in the way of any other flavor. The recipe adjusted slightly might bring about a more rounded taste.

Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of coffee, chocolate, bitter malt. Tastes peppery and of coffee with some nice roasted malt character. badgerben (5187) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - JUL 4, 2008
Black color with a thin head. Coffee aroma (duh) with roasted malt. A little fruit... I think cherry. The taste is more of a medium roasted coffee. Strong roasted barley. Simple, but very good.
