one of the better stouts out there nice color aroma and slightly bitter with a sweet finish well worth the price vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 15, 2002
Has a dark brown slightly translucent color and has a sweet smell. Taste is creamy roasted malts and finishes with slight bitterness. Overall I am pleased with this beer, it is not the greatest beer ever, but it tastes good. Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 7, 2002
Very creamy. Smooth as hell with flavors not overbearing, but subtle and apparent. Slightly roasted with a touch of bitterness. Not as good as the Bell’s Susie’s Sweet Stout, but better than most Sam Adams beers I’ve had. RogerBurks (45) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 7, 2002
UPDATED: DEC 20, 2004 Very smooth and rich without being overbearingly heavy. Nice contract of maltiness and slight sweetness. Great lingering palate. Again, I’ve only had this in a bottle, and really would like to try it on tap. Zodanga (26) - Alabama, USA - NOV 6, 2002
It’s flavorful (both by taste and smell), smooth and creamy but to much of an alcohol taste for me.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2010 Extremely creamy with prominent coffee note. I prefer sweet stouts to dry any day. Easy to find, and easy to drink. Nose is full of milk chocolate as is the flavor tending towards chocolate syrup. Very well balanced with just enough bittering hops to offset the dry cocoa malty notes. Roasted coffee nose. Small light tan head. Deep mahogany hue. Caramel, coffee, black chocolate, very carbonated, medium bodied, bitter bite, and sweet finish. Zach Diesel (906) - Sisters, Oregon, USA - OCT 27, 2002
totally creamed out, aroma, flavor and everything, a tad dry as well Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - OCT 23, 2002
This is a great all around stout. Smooth and rich in flavors and aroma. Nice black appearance with good lasting tan head. Goes down easy. PhillyBeer2112 (2850) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - OCT 20, 2002
Updated: Dark brown nearly opaque. Large pitted stiff large tan head. Head lasts until the end, glass covered in lace. Roasty and chocolatey aromatics, and light roastiness in flavor. Some hints of chocolate and plastic (black patent malt?) in flavor as well. Smooth and rich, with full mouthfeel. Generally leaning to the sweet side. One of the top beers from the Sam Adams line.
