COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

Bottle. Pours a dark gold-orange with a high, fine-grained, cream-colored head. Nose is herbal and floral, but also has a vanilla-like note. A lot of toffee-like sweetness on the open, with hops citrus and some bitterness on the midpalate. More citrus on the close, and a very pleasant smooth, rich mouthfeel. Not a lot of carbonation. Quite nice.

Slightly tropical citrus and pine hop aroma. Flavor is remarkably rich and hoppy. Tangy tropical hops. Well rounded flavor from start to finish. Must be the lagering. My only complaint is that it is a bit cloying and full bodied for a 5% offering. Tasty but not all that refreshing.

Bottle. Great beer. Loved the rich citrus hop taste that one finds in a IPAD but had that crisp refreshing finish of a lager. Great stuff.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2013 Clear, deep gold with a white head. The malty aroma has some bread and cereal notes. The light body has an oily texture with lively carbonation. It has a mildly bitter taste with a dry finish.

Sampled on tap at a local bar. A nice crisp ale with a well blended hop palate. Quality but nothing special.

Clear amber appearance with an average size, off white head and light lacing. Tropical fruit and lemon are prominent in the aroma. Resinous, piney hop characteristics more pronounced in the taste. Aftertaste has a earthy, citrus edge. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel with a medium length finish.

amber color; grapefruit, citrusy aroma;a little bready malt in the aroma as well; lots of citrusy, grapefruit hop flavor with a light, clean, bready malt background

Fruity aroma, hop, grass, caramel and malt. White lacing galore. Clear yellow-gold color. Thin body and fairly dry. Actually, it is quite dry. Not boozy at all. Strong lager? W

Crisp and clean like a lager, yet very hop forward. The hops are a bit muddled- slight citrus and pine with a spice bite. I enjoy this newer style though (IPL).

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Manzanita pint glass From: VONS in Grantville, Calif. (San Diego) Price: $13.97 w/ card ($17.99 regular) for the Spring Thaw Variety 12-pack Misc.: Label said to enjoy before June Poured a dark golden clear color with just over a finger of off-white head. Not much lacing on the sides of the glass. Decent retention, especially after most of the head dropping early. Smelled a sharp whiff of icy Cascade hops. Also citrus (grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel) and some floral hops. Some spices on the nose as well. Taste really didnít gel with the smell. Not as much flavor, more of an alcohol crescendo. Hops really donít come through as much, but still bitter ending. Slight grapefruit if anything. Cool, icy Cascade hops, albeit slight. Maybe some mango in there, as well as tangerine and orange peel late. Light body. Oily texture. Lively (above average) carbonation. Bitter abrupt finish. Clean, crisp and refreshing. Got better as it went down. A pretty good beer, especially after looking at the label after I rated it. Thought it was an IPA, but apparently itís an IPA-lager hybrid. Beer Advocate calls it an American Pale Lager. Either way, Iíll be having this again.
