COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewing innovation is about asking "what if?". What if we gave an IPA a new identity and used some of our favorite West Coast hops, with their grapefruit, piney, & tropical fruit character, in a lager? The result is this boldly hoppy & and flavorful brew with the crisp smoothness of a lager. Cheers!

MALT VARIETIES Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend and Munich malt
HOP VARIETIES Zeus, Simcoe, Citra, Ahtanum, Cascade, Centennial, and Nelson Sauvin hops

Pours a dark straw from a bottle, lots of lacing. Aroma of citrus fruits, flavor a thin watery lemon. Meh.

12 oz bottle pours a clear bronze/amber color with bubbles rising in the center toward a tw0-finger off-white head that lasts. Aroma is just as good as the appearance and as expected from an IPA: piney, grapefruit, lemon and some caramel. Body is light to medium with very lively carbonation. Taste is bitter with some sweetness in the middle. Seems like more than 5% ABV to me. Despite the hype on the bottle, this one exceeded my expectations: drinks like a lager but with the flavor of an IPA.

bottle. Poured clear gold with a white frothy head. Piney hop aroma. Medium mouthfeel, soft carbonation with a tart sticky finish. Orange citrus flavour with a grassy herbal note.

Bottle poured clear golden hue w/ a white frothy lingering head and some sticky lacing. Decent hop aromas. Initial flavor is light sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Bold citrus and pine hop taste and light on the lager. Light bodied and soft carbonation.

~Strong floral hop aroma with grapefruit and mango. Very light bready maltiness. Very clean! Hops dominate. Very enjoyable aroma. ~Pours a very clear light copper color with small quickly disappearing head. ~Strong hoppy flavors of grapefruit, mango, and light pine and floral. ~medium bodied, medium co2, lasting bitter hop finish. ~Not much malt to speak of here. Great way to showcase the hops. It would be interesting to have an English IPL with Marris Otter and maybe some English Caramel malts. Still enjoyed this beer and will tell my hophead friends about it.

Straw color. Good lacing. Starts like a lager, but ends with a grain and fruit finish that makes it very interesting. And better than the typical lager

Chipalsa (1310) - Florida, USA - JAN 27, 2013
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2013 This one is a winner for sure. From the bottle poured a clean yellow body with a thick sea-foam head. Aromas were spicy and pungent of west coast hops and pine, seriously nice floral smell! The taste was full of bitter hops, pineapple, honey and light lemongrass. Most definitely one of Sam Adams’ best. I loved this beer and hope they get smart and go with 6-packs!

IslandHaole (1294) - Misawa, JAPAN - APR 11, 2016
Clear medium Amber color, tan head. Aromatic hops, Left Coast hopping with some fruit cocktail notes. Nice hoppy flavor too, resinous pine tar, bread dough, hints of orange blossom honey, good bitter follow. Quite quaffable!

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a clear amber with little to none off white head that went away very quickly. Aroma of grain and some hops and a bit of malts. Flavor is mostly bitter hops (but not overwhelming), citrus and grassy flavors balanced with a bit of sweetness from malts. Drinkable.

Draft. A nice hoppy lager. Nose is nice sweet yeast and hops. Good sweetness and bitterness is the flavor. Interesting.
