Pours light amber, big pine and hops on the nose. Tastes of citrus and pine. This is a really impressive brew.

Pours light amber. One+ finger head with nice lacing. Aroma of tangerine and grapefruit. Medium light body. Tastes of grapefruit, honey and herbs. Finishes citrusy clean with a nice clean bitter. I like it, a lager you can chew on! pottygok (548) - Ohio, USA - MAR 10, 2014
Aroma: Citrus and spruce hop aromas with hints of resin.
Appearance: Sparkling gold with white head
Taste: Heavy bitterness with light sweetness at the edges and in the finish.
Palate: Full body, light texture, average carbonation, long finish
Overall: A nice, crisp clean beer, but lots of flavor. Well done. EamonTheGreat (157) - USA - MAR 22, 2014
Pours golden almost amber with a great hop aroma. Almost similar to an IPA's hop aroma. Citrusy taste gives way to well balanced malt character. A very smooth light beer for the apparent hop flavor. My first IPL, and one of the best lagers I've ever had.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2013 Aroma is clean/piney hops and malts. The flavor is grapefruit, citrus, a hint of tropical fruit, a malty background and a dry and bitter finish. Kind of reminiscent of New Belgium Shift, pretty good.

Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL has a very thick, off-white head, a mostly clear, orange-golden appearance, streaming bubbles, and a lot of thick lacing left behind on the glass. The aroma is sharp- strong, citrusy hop oil and some sweet bread. Taste is of sweet bread, strong hop oil, and a bit of citrus juice. It is pleasantly bitter. The mouthfeel is medium, and Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL finishes crisp, refreshing, dry, and drinkable. Another winner from Boston Beer Company, this one scores high marks. RJT

Bottle from the spring variety pack. Pours a clear light amber/deep gold with a 1-finger fluffy white head that leaves very little lacing. Aroma is typical for an IPA: big pine punch with a hint of flowers and citrus. Taste follows suit, but is a little bit more mellow than an actual ale. Light mouthfeel and clean finish typical of a lager. This is a darn good beer, although I don’t think it’s quite as "groundbreaking" as Sam Adams hoped it would be. Very similar to Sierra Nevada Torpedo overall, but light enough to session easily. Ericular (1020) - Minnesota, USA - APR 15, 2013
Pours a clear gold with lasting head and nice spotty lacing. Aroma is piney, citrusy, spicy hops with some caramel and bready malts. Flavor is sweet on the tongue, immediately into a moderate amount of bitter pine resin and some grapefruit. A few seconds later, the hops make room for some caramel malt, but the hops make sure to stick around. Later, classic Sam Adams bready aftertaste and faint lingering hop resin. All of this with the clean finish of a lager. This is super drinkable. It’s like a hoppy version of their original lager, but without enough balance to go down very easy. Very impressive! mikedevilsfan (226) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 11, 2013
great lacing, wonderful orange color. Smell of pine and grapefruit and a touch of malt. Grapefruit/floral taste very balanced with some pine on back end.Maybe the best lager on the planet! foosnbrews (145) - Parker, Colorado, USA - JUL 16, 2013
Beer poors a deeper copper with a nice whit head with big bubbles. Color is deeper than most lagers. Aroma is interesting with floral, grapefruit hop aromas and light alcohol in background. Clean lager malt aroma. Flavor is very unique. Sam Adams has done a great job of melding a clean pilsner character with American IPA hops aroma, flavor and bitterness. Medium malt body with hints of carmel. Hops prevail in flavor with grapefruit, piney, citrus notes. Body is medium, with a finish that seems dry at first, but has more presence than first detected. Carbonation is lively and adds to this character. Finish leaves a nice citrus in the mouth. Overall very good beer, drinkable and very complex. Well done!
