12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained white head, with extensive lacing, over a clear, amber (SRM 12) body.....nose is pine, grapefruit, other citrus....taste is ligth toffee/caramel, pine, citrus peel, finishing with a moderate soft bitterness....mouth feel medium, minimally sticky, carbonation adds a soft finish. Rating this as a Premium Lager using BJCP standards will lead to a very low score. It almost completely misses the style with the hop aromas and flavors so very forward, and the malt back bone being so obvious. It is technically well done. Rating this on Ratebeer where standards are looser, results in a rather highly thought of beer. BJCP 7/3/11/4/5 r464 (2360) - Earth, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 1, 2013
Smooth and malty, but balanced. Full enough, but not heavy. A very nice lager that the macros could sure learn from. notalush (5873) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 14, 2013
Gold pour with a very light haze - fairly effervescent body, with a frothy, well-sustained head - nose is pretty much all hops - a nice mix, but that cascade, citra and centennial come through the most - very American IPA in aroma - no lager character, but pleasant none-the-less - low carbonation - fairly creamy texture - at first, the flavor is much like the nose - all IPA, no lager - citrus, pine, the zesty character of the Nelson and th Zeus - light bodied and fairly crisp - very mild, but rich Munich character late - fairly crisp, almost crackery finish - not what I was expecting, but once I got past that, I found it to be a nice, sessionable hoppy brew. swigswthwolves (74) - Michigan City, Indiana, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Pours a medium amber with a lingering foamy head. Aroma is light but bitter. Taste has hints of citrus and hops. Good refreshing beer that would be perfect as a sessional. Drake (13724) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 4, 2013
12 ounce bottle from the Spring sampler. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of herbal, resin hops. The taste is herbal, resin hops with pale, crackery malts. Medium bodied. A little bland, but prettty drinkable.

Bottle from Walmart. Nose is sweet and hoppy. Sugar and citrus, Good hoppiness up front. A little bit of sweet followed by a bitter finish. Some grains in there as well. Nice session brew. Solid bitterness for the abv. jcweaver (768) - VA Beach, Virginia, USA - JAN 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours copper with a medium white head. Pine and herb hop aroma with a hint of spice. Pine and citrus hop flavor with some pale malts. A hint of spice in the finish along with some moderate hop bitterness. Much more like a pale ale than a pale lager. A little bland but very drinkable for a pale lager.

Grassy overtones and a stiff, punchy finish, this faux-IPA is a pleasant backyard beer when you don’t want your tongue throttled by too much incensed hoppiness. One of the better offerings in Sam Adams’ oeuvre of seasonal and specialty beers. Palidor19 (3188) - Brandon, Florida, USA - JAN 17, 2013
A nice hoppy flavor that is very constant. It's bitterness is like pony with a low malt presence.

Bottle. Poured pale yellow with a largish white head. Aroma was citrus, tropical fruits, some pine. Flavor was citrus, tropical fruit, some pepperiness, crisp lager. Light to medium body. Actually, a quite successful brew, in my opinion.
