Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Amazing balance of flavors and drinkability in this dunkelweizen. Pours medium brown with a reasonably thick and creamy light tan head. Gorgeous beer. Nose is quite appetizing with a soft banana bread like aroma - banana with brown dessert spices. On the palate the banana bread comes through again with the malty component making its voice heard, with a medium to light body, and a gentle sweetness towards the finish. This is both incredibly drinkable and flavorful at the same time.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Burnt bubblegum, clove, and honey. Creamy foamy mouthfeel.

The aroma is true to the style, fruity, wheat, grainy, spicy, some smoke. The appearance is a amber color, somewhat translucent, decent size white head. The flavor is spicy, grainy, wheat, dark fruit. The mouthfeel is medium, actually a little on the thin side. The finish is mild hop bittering, and spices like clove. Not bad, a decent dunkelweizen, but not exceptional. Actually, that can be said of a lot of Sam’s beers.

Bottle courtesy of blutt59. Clear orange appearance. Sweet smell with some heavy fruit. Dry bitter on the upfront but the finish is wetter than antisipated.

Oange-amber. Small, fast head. Aroma: Bananas, clove, caramel malt. Flavor: Same with earthy finish. A good Sam.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy caramel brown color with a lasting light tan head. Smells of wheat malt, grass, and straw. Tastes grainy, some wheat, lightly spiced, some rye, and some hops. Nicely balanced. Crispy body. Semi sweet aftertaste.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a small tan head over a clear copper body. Aroma of banana, rye and husky wheat. Taste is watery with clove, wheat and some esters. Fizzy and watery.

12oz bottle purchased at Shaw’s as part of the new Samuel Adams Harvest mix-pack. Pours a hazy to murky copper brown body with over an inch of khaki-colored head. Smells nutty and banana notes and hints of spice and lemon-zest and pith. Toasty nuttiness hits first in the flavor, with hints of caramel and toffee, and suggestions of banana and spice. Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Pretty darn drinkable. Not at all a bad example of the style - a welcome addition to the Samuel Adams fall line-up!

Found this in the harvest pack and I loved it. Reminds me of what I really did find in Bavaria last fall. Well balanced and unfiltered, this beer pours a cloudy brown. Everything about it is hearty. Now the challenge is to find a six pack.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly’s, 8/26/09, I made them crack open the Harvest pack into singles so I could buy 1 of these without having to get the whole 12 pack

Aroma: Wheat, lemon, banana, clove, mild spice
Appearance: Slightly hazy orange-amber color, fluffy white head
Flavor: Spice, malty wheat, bready and citrus flavors blend alright with the spice
Palate: Light to medium in body, pretty fizzy, drinkable, smooth
Overall Impression: You know, this beer is alright, but it certainly isn’t great. It is a little light on flavor and character for me, though it appears that others liked it more then I did.
