COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Velkyal (321) - Gordonsville, Virginia, USA - OCT 13, 2012
Pours a dark amber with a good frothy couple of inches of foam - I was expecting a bit more dunkel to be honest. The aroma department was dominated by banana, with hints of spice, not clove, just spice in general, and some toastiness. Tastewise the toasted malts really come through, with a bit of sweet caramel and a nice long reasonably dry finish. Medium bodied, quite drinkable and a decent enough brew.

Pours amber with a finger of off-white head. Aroma is light and fruity with some banana notes. Tastes almost like a fried banana but not nearly as strong a flavor. Pretty good beer

Hazy nut brown pour with thin head. Aroma is mostly wheat. Taste starts with yeast and wheat fruitiness but finishes with more balanced malt character. ---Rated via iPhone

Murky brown with a light white head. Musty wheat malt character. Somewhat sour with light spice notes. Some esters and banana with a touch of caramel.

Bottle from variety pack while pre gaming outside patriots game. Pours brown with semi earthy sweet nose. Tastes of malt, nutty, earth, banana, wheat, and nutmeg. Light bodied easy drinking but nice for crisp fall day like now

(9/14) Pours hazy brown/light brown. very malty in taste which I think overpowered the opportunity to taste other spices., finish was sweet/bitter all in one

Pours a slightly hazy light brown. Floaties in a Sam Adams. Intentional or fault? Lightly carbonated with a thick head. Smelled of hops, green and something off I couldn’t quite pick out. Taste was malty, sweet, very fruity especially banana and tropical with clove and spice. Finish is similar to the flavor.

Clear bubbly orange-brown, tiny white head. Aroma a not entirely pleasant estery smell with some wheat and spices. Medium light body with carbonation. Flavor sweet and fruity with background of wheat and banana and cloves or something. Ok I think but I have some bias as not a huge fan of this style.

This is a good representation of the style. Not my favorite style but good nonetheless. Had it in a fall variety pack. I wouldn’t buy this beer solo, but worth a try if you like dunkels.

A very typical Dunkelweizen. Smooth, moderately sweet, rich and full-bodied, fruity (mildly-banana-like) aroma, very faintly suggesting spice. Solidly enjoyable, if somewhat boring. Thankfully, not too sour! Good and I would gladly drink it again.
