Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Thin reminds me of the crystal clear lighter German types nothing offensive here slight clove and banana taste Miss that old Michelob Dunkel Weiss they had a few years ago that was a nice dark beer. Decent attempt at this style it works and sure beats a Bud.

A dirty gold colored body. A light medium body. Banana is very light but present. Over all the flavors are light and a bit watery. Easy to drink and crisp. I would like stronger flavors but of the flavors were disliked. This one is going on my try again list.

On tap at Circa, High Bridge, NJ. Clean lines. Beer pours dark brown, close to black, with a lively just off-white head. Aroma is toasty banana, obvious but not agressive. Taste is at once sweet and toasted malt, with continuing banana overtone; finish is sweet and toasty - a nice offering from Sam Adams.

Pours an attractive caramel/toffee hue and cloudy, thank goodnes. Pleasant aroma of roasty, toasty grains and a touh of sweetness. Body feels a little light, but the flavor profile is there if only a bit weakly. To style, but too conservative and bland to be memorable.

Attractive dark amber cloudy appearance. Aroma is earthen and fruity. Unfiltered, with some tiny sediment visible. Solid wheat malt backbone with some nice fruitiness and prominent clove and other spices. Not as full of a body as I would hope for, which is the one knock against Sam Adams, compared to some of the other breweries out there that are willing to double the strength of their recipes and create a truly strong beer. (To their credit, Sam Adams did something akin to this with their Imperial Series). Anyway, the yeast gives this brew a pleasant aroma and refreshing flavor. Short but clean finish.

Pours to a large tan head and has an amber appearence. The flavor is strong, but not over powering. It goes down smooth enough and doesnt leave an aftertaste.

I had this in a variety pack. Sweeter than expected. Fruity flavor. But still enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours dark with a healthy head. Aromas just like a wheat beer but it seems a bit burnt. Finishes surprisingly easy.

This was a great beer and tasted just as it should. It has a good wheat flavor, great coloring, and oh so refreshing.

12 oz. bottle. Appearance is amber-orange and cloudy. Head is minimal to non-existent. Aromas of banana, bubblegum, and a hint of nutmeg. Strong flavors of banana and nutmeg. Medium-body with lively carbonation and a strong, slightly dry, finish. This is not a favorite of mine. The problem isnt that the beer doesnt have any flavor, its that it has TOO MUCH flavor. There are so many different flavors in this that it just ends up being a bizarre melange that doesnt really work well together.
