COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

From a bottle poured at home. Pours a deep, hazy amber with an off white head. Fruity banana aroma and flavor without much hop present. Crisp finish. A decent, sessionalbe beer.

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2012 Decent bananas and dark bread aroma and flavor with a tart finish. Not as robust as the German examples of the style but this cleans up well.

Bottle. Pours a slightyl hazy light brown body with a small fizzy off white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is pretty decent, slightly husky and earthy with some light esters of banana. The flavor is a bit thin though, not enough yeastiness or body. The finish is laced with banana and clove. Light to medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. This one isnt the best.

On tap: The aroma consists of banana, bubblegum, light caramel, and a touch of roast. Its a hazy brownish-orange with a small off-white head that quickly settles to a thin film. The flavor starts with moderate banana, caramel, and a touch of chocolate. The finish has a light wheaty tanginess and a touch of roast. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Overall, I love wheat beers and this is a pretty tasty Weizenbock.

Sample bottle. Pours brown with a tannish head. Smells of bananas, cloves, some bubblegum, some caramel, touches of chocolate. Taste repeats the nose and is also accompanied by an earthy finish with some spiciness at the end. Not bad.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark orange color with a thin off white head. The aroma is typical for the style with some fruit basket banana, hints of clove and wheat, light bubblegum esters. Pretty traditional. The flavor is the same. Well balanced yeast flavors on the palate, but a bit of a weak body. Pretty nice as this style goes.

Pours clear amber with a dense beige head. The aroma has candied bananas, clove, cotton candy and dark wheatiness. It has a medium / full body thats pretty rich and has fairly sharp carbonation for the style. The flavor starts with rich wheat, caramel, light banana, toffee and pepper. The finish adds clove and some wheaty sweetness. Decent dunkelweizen.

I liked this more than I expected. Reddish brown, decent sized loose, spongey head. I got some rye, some banana, some toasty aromas, and the flaor was more rye. Nice and clean, no "off" flavors to speak of. Tasty. Sampled at lithys Septemberfest.
